Job summary

Modern Niagara in Calgary seeks a Project Manager to lead mechanical contracting projects, manage budgets, schedules and subcontractors, and ensure on-time delivery. Candidates should have strong communication, teamwork, and the ability to navigate complex change orders.

You will collaborate with clients and field teams, review drawings, forecast costs, and uphold safety standards while driving project success and profitability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor level degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years of project management experience in mechanical contracting.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and documents.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and scheduling software.
• Ability to plan and manage project schedule with cost awareness.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills; office and field experience.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills; crisis management ability.

Responsibilities

• Manage budgets, procure equipment and subcontractors, and bill/collect per KPI targets.
• Participate in estimating turnover, pre/post construction meetings.
• Prepare monthly financial forecasts and contribute to status reviews.
• Attend client and construction meetings and relay information to crews.
• Coordinate equipment and systems commissioning processes.
• Contribute to pre-construction review of contracts and scope estimation.
• Monitor field progress and ensure safety standards are followed.
• Create purchase orders and review labour plans with Foremen.
• Communicate labour progress and make financial judgments in monthly reviews.

Key Impact / Purpose

• Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources to achieve financial targets.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships while promoting Modern Niagara’s full-service offerings.
• Ensure safety and quality standards are upheld throughout project execution.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for managing the budget, procuring equipment and subcontractors while billingand collecting funds for their respective projects in line with the KPI targets as determined bymanagement on a quarterly basis.
• Participate in estimating turnover meetings, preconstruction meetings and post constructionmeetings.
• Complete monthly financial forecasting reports and participates in project status reviewmeetings.
• Attends client and construction meetings as required and to disseminate the information towork force, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Manage and coordinate the equipment and systems commissioning process.
• Contributing as necessary to the pre-construction process by reviewing contracts anddetermining project scope, planning and estimating prior to execution.
• Attends job site progress walks and is aware of project construction status.
• Maintain safety standards in respect of their projects.
• Create purchase orders for suppliers and subcontractors.
• Breaks out labour budget and reviews break out with Foremen.
• Reviews Foreman labour plan with budget and input.
• Communicates and confers with Foreman on the labour progress and makes financial judgement calls in monthly review on final labour hours.
• PM is aware of field progress and communicates with foremen against the plan.

Must-haves:

• Typically holds a post-secondary degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent trade/technical background.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience working as a Project Manager in mechanical contracting
• Experience in reading and interpreting construction drawings and documents.
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and computerizedscheduling packages.
• Demonstrates the ability to plan and manage project schedule
• Knowledge of construction costs and budgets.
• Team player, energetic, resourceful
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in an office and field environment and maintain excellent workingrelationships with others.
• Competent in conflict and crisis management.
• Excellent time and project management skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

This is replacement position and the salary range is between $90,000 - $115,000
