Job summary

Modern Niagara in Calgary is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee multiple mechanical construction projects. You will manage budgets, schedules, and resources while fostering strong client relationships and coordinating with foremen, subcontractors, and vendors.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of PM experience in mechanical contracting.
  • Experience reading construction drawings and documents.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and scheduling tools.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Office and field work capability with good relationships.
  • Conflict and crisis management skills.

  • Create purchase orders for suppliers and subcontractors and manage labour budgets.
  • Coordinate equipment and systems commissioning and participate in pre-construction reviews.

Role Summary

The project manager oversees multiple mechanical construction projects within the special projects team and will be managing budgets, schedules, and resources to ensure successful delivery. This role works closely with foremen, subcontractors, and vendors to achieve financial and operational goals while maintaining strong client relationships.

  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources to achieve financial targets.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while promoting Modern Niagara’s full-service offerings.
  • Ensure safety and quality standards are upheld throughout project execution.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for managing the budget, procuring equipment and subcontractors while billingand collecting funds for their respective projects in line with the KPI targets as determined bymanagement on a quarterly basis.
  • Participate in estimating turnover meetings, preconstruction meetings and post constructionmeetings.
  • Complete monthly financial forecasting reports and participates in project status reviewmeetings.
  • Attends client and construction meetings as required and to disseminate the information towork force, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Manage and coordinate the equipment and systems commissioning process.
  • Contributing as necessary to the pre-construction process by reviewing contracts anddetermining project scope, planning and estimating prior to execution.
  • Attends job site progress walks and is aware of project construction status.
  • Maintain safety standards in respect of their projects.
  • Create purchase orders for suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Breaks out labour budget and reviews break out with Foremen.
  • Reviews Foreman labour plan with budget and input.
  • Communicates and confers with Foreman on the labour progress and makes financial judgement calls in monthly review on final labour hours.
  • PM is aware of field progress and communicates with foremen against the plan.
Must-haves:
  • Typically holds a post-secondary degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent trade/technical background.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working as a Project Manager in mechanical contracting
  • Experience in reading and interpreting construction drawings and documents.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and computerizedscheduling packages.
  • Demonstrates the ability to plan and manage project schedule
  • Knowledge of construction costs and budgets.
  • Team player, energetic, resourceful
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in an office and field environment and maintain excellent workingrelationships with others.
  • Competent in conflict and crisis management.
  • Excellent time and project management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Nice-to-haves:
  • Understanding of all facets of the construction process.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles is an asset
  • Strong financial acumen and decision-making skills.

This is new position and the salary range is between $90,000 – $115,000
