Depending on your experience, you’ll have opportunities to build your skills, take on increasing responsibility, and support or lead elements of large‑scale marine projects aligned with Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy. We offer a dynamic and flexible work environment, opportunities for cross‑industry collaboration, and clear pathways for career growth and progression.

Responsibilities
  • Support, contribute to, or lead the analysis of engineering changes related to naval ships, systems, and equipment—including structures, materials, welding, coatings and preservation, shock and vibration, damage control systems, and piping systems.
  • Participate in or lead technical investigations and the development of engineering studies to inform project decision‑making.
  • Provide technical input and review of engineering specifications and drawings, with scope and complexity increasing based on experience.
  • Maintain, update, and improve technical documentation for naval systems and equipment.
  • Provide guidance and technical expertise in hull systems and naval architecture technologies, supporting both internal teams and external clients as appropriate to experience level.
  • Contribute to or lead the development of technical publications and support knowledge‑sharing initiatives across projects and teams.
Qualifications
Education
  • Marine technologist experience gained through service with the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) (e.g., Maintenance Manager qualified, or working toward qualification), or equivalent hands‑on technical experience in a relevant marine or defence environment.
  • Experience levels will vary; candidates may bring early‑career exposure through to several years of applied experience in naval or marine systems.
  • Technical background in one or more of the following RCN trades or equivalent disciplines: Marine Engineering, Marine Electrical, Hull Technician, or Combat Systems.
  • Relevant education may include a Diploma or equivalent in Engineering Technology, Electrical Technology, Electronic Technology, Naval Architecture Technology, or a related field.
  • A combination of education, training, and practical experience will be considered.
Experience & Requirements
  • Familiarity with or proficiency in maintenance procedures and technical documentation, with the ability to develop expertise over time.
  • Experience with or exposure to technical writing, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks and meet project deadlines, working independently or with guidance as appropriate to experience level.
  • Physically capable of moving about a ship, including climbing ladders and navigating confined spaces.
