Job summary

Fleetway is seeking a Detail Designer to translate complex naval and marine concepts into precise 2D production drawings. You will work at the intersection of engineering and production, supporting the construction, modernization, and sustainment of vessels.

You will develop detailed drawings for shipboard systems, equipment installations, and structural components, ensuring compliance with shipyard and industry standards while collaborating with engineers, designers, and project teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or related field; OR an Engineering Technology Diploma.
  • Experience in drafting, 3D modelling, or engineering design.
  • Training in 2D drafting and 3D modelling using marine or mechanical design software.
  • Experience with CAD tools is an asset.
  • Experience with naval vessels or marine projects is an asset.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Produce accurate, high quality 2D drawings extracted and detailed from 3D ship models, including parts, assemblies, installations, and diagrams.
  • Apply shipyard, classification, and internal design standards to all work.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by meeting and enhancing drawing targets and processes.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and project team members to support integrated marine design and build solutions.
  • Maintain organized documentation and project files, ensuring deliverables are completed on time.

Job description

As a Detail Designer at Fleetway, you will play a vital role in bringing complex ship designs to life. Working at the intersection of engineering and production, you will transform technical concepts and design requirements into detailed 2D production drawings that support the construction, modernization, and sustainment of advanced naval and marine vessels.

As part of a multidisciplinary team of engineers, designers, and technical specialists, you will contribute to the development of detailed drawings for shipboard systems, equipment installations, structural components, foundations, and mechanical and electrical arrangements. Your work will directly support some of Canada’s most significant marine and defence programs, helping ensure vessels are built safely, efficiently, and in accordance with shipyard, regulatory, and industry standards.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering field;
    OR an Engineering Technology Diploma.

Requirements

  • Experience in or exposure to drafting, 3D modelling, or engineering design ( all experience levels are encouraged to apply ).
  • Training or experience in 2D drafting and 3D modelling using marine or mechanical design software.
  • Experience with CAD tools is considered an asset.
  • Experience working with naval vessels, shipyards, or marine engineering projects is an asset but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills to support integrated design work across disciplines.
