They provide critical technical, financial, and workforce support across industries including architecture, structural, electrical, and mechanical engineering, marine and offshore structures, oil and gas, and energy management.

Your new role

The Mechanical Engineering Design Manager will play a pivotal role in establishing and growing the mechanical engineering design department within the firm. This individual will not only manage and lead the team but also be deeply involved in hands-on design work. A key responsibility will be to acquire new clients and build lasting relationships while driving the department’s growth. This position offers a base salary plus bonus structure based on the new clients brought in by the candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and participate in the design of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and sustainable energy systems, using both hands-on design and management.
• Manage the delivery of high-quality mechanical designs from concept to completion.
• Acquire new clients by developing strong relationships with government agencies, property developers, commercial clients, and more.
• Act as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring satisfaction and delivering solutions aligned with their needs.
• Oversee all aspects of mechanical engineering projects, including scheduling, resource allocation, and budgeting.
• Ensure designs meet client specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Establish and lead the mechanical engineering design department, defining processes, standards, and building a strong team.
• Recruit, mentor, and manage mechanical engineers and technical staff to ensure high performance and development.t.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure the delivery of integrated solutions.

What you'll need to succeed

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master’s ).
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Alberta is required.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer in the US is a plus.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering design, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
• Proven ability to acquire new clients and bring projects in the door.
• Hands-on experience in mechanical design work, not just management.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and other design software.
• Strong understanding of local building codes, industry standards, and regulatory requirements in Calgary and Alberta.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Proven track record in business development and managing client relationships.
