Earth Sciences and Engineering specializes in site planning, spatial information and digital terrain modeling, surface and subsurface investigations, rock mechanics, underground structures, geotechnical laboratory services, flood forecasting, and water resource management through our geotechnical, hydrotechnical, and civil site development expertise.

Hatch has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Civil Design Lead to join our Calgary office. In this role, you will be involved in all aspects of design management for drainage, utilities, and roadways.

Overall responsibilities include the following:

1. Leading overall design management of civil components including drainage, utilities, and roadways.
2. Ensuring that project design solutions are delivered to the highest standards and meet program and budgetary constraints.
3. Planning resourcing of projects and monitoring against budgets.
4. Preparing and monitoring work programs to deliver projects on time.
5. Establishing and maintaining excellent client relationships.
6. Providing sound technical leadership.
7. Familiarity with design development processes using software tools such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bentley InRoads.
8. Active involvement in client management and business development.
9. Mentoring and developing junior staff, fostering a team approach.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited university.
2. Registered as a P.Eng.
3. Minimum 10+ years of utilities experience in designing municipal infrastructure projects in a consulting environment.
4. Experience managing civil underground utility projects such as water mains, sanitary and sewer infrastructure, and roadwork.
5. Experience in infrastructure planning, including water and sewer infrastructure needs assessment.
6. Proven success in designing drainage and utilities for development, urban regeneration, and transportation projects.
7. Strong understanding of engineering skills such as geometric design, grading, permitting, utility coordination, and roadway drainage design.
8. Familiarity with GIS for spatial analysis and hydraulic modeling is preferred.
9. Proficiency in CADD (MicroStation, InRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D), AutoTURN (asset), and Microsoft Office Suite.
10. Experience in producing plans, specifications, and engineer’s estimates for roadway projects.
11. Understanding of engineering principles related to capacity and load of municipal infrastructure.
12. Established working relationships with municipalities and utilities.
13. Strong project management, reporting, and proposal writing skills.
14. Excellent communication skills, confident and professional interaction with all levels of staff and clients.
15. Leadership ability to guide design teams across various projects.
16. Experience in railway infrastructure projects is an asset.
