Job Description
In this role as an Engineer Specialist, you will be key in the design and analysis of mechanical systems and structures, ensuring they meet high standards for performance, safety, and reliability. Your expertise will help us develop practical solutions, tackle complex engineering challenges, and contribute to the success of projects of all sizes, from large to small. You will work on a variety of projects that push the limits of mechanical engineering, focusing on mechanical design, structural and thermal integrity, and optimization using Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
Responsibilities
- Lead projects from conception to completion, designing, analyzing, and improving mechanical systems and structures.
- Utilize skills in FEA, thermal analysis, solid mechanics, and stress analysis to create reliable, high-quality solutions.
- Support engineering needs related to Production Irradiator (PI) products.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, project managers, and engineers to ensure project success—delivering on time, within budget, and meeting quality standards.
- Validate and refine components and systems to ensure optimal performance and quality.
Qualifications
- Strong background in mechanical design and analysis, familiar with industry standards, DFM principles, and cost-effective design.
- Proficient in mechanical stress and strength calculations to ensure safety and reliability.
- Minimum 8 years of experience with structural and thermal FEA analysis.
- Experience leading design projects from inception to implementation.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, ensuring timely and within-budget completion.
- Excellent communication skills for explaining technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Hands-on experience with testing, analyzing results, and reporting.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and creativity in overcoming design challenges.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and technicians.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field; P.Eng license or eligibility preferred.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and technological advancement.
Additional Assets
- Experience with electromechanical systems, multi-disciplinary design, Ansys, SolidWorks, and working in regulated industries (preferably nuclear).
- Knowledge of welding design, specifications, and radiation shielding analysis.
Requirements & Additional Information
- Occasional overtime and international travel (up to 30 days/year).
- Completion of required training and certification as a Nuclear Energy Worker.
