Job Description

The House of Commons' Digital Services and Real Property is currently looking to staff the Mechanical Engineer position.

This position requires on-site presence five (5) days per week.

As the Mechanical Engineer, you will provide professional engineering expertise in support of major building rehabilitation, infrastructure renewal and campus development projects across the House of Commons. In this role, you will represent the House of Commons' mechanical engineering interests by reviewing consultant designs and technical deliverables, developing and validating project requirements, and evaluating mechanical systems to ensure they meet operational needs, engineering standards and applicable codes.

You will provide technical advice on a range of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and building automation, while considering reliability, sustainability, maintainability and long-term performance. Working closely with project teams, consultants, facility operations and parliamentary partners, you will support projects throughout planning, design, construction and commissioning. You will also help identify technical risks, recommend practical solutions and contribute to the continuous improvement of mechanical engineering standards and practices that support the long-term operation of House of Commons facilities.

Qualifications

Education:

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario (preferred), or eligibility to obtain registration within 12 months (required).

Experiences:

  • 5+ years of engineering experience, including providing professional mechanical engineering services for institutional, commercial or major capital building projects;
  • Experience reviewing engineering designs, specifications and consultant-prepared technical work, and developing owner requirements, engineering reports and technical recommendation.;
  • Experience supporting complex building projects through planning, design and construction, while coordinating engineering activities with multidisciplinary project teams and external consultants;
  • Experience providing professional engineering advice, identifying and resolving technical issues, and supporting decisions related to building systems and infrastructure;
  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical engineering and building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and building automation;
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering design, construction, commissioning, building performance, and applicable codes, standards and policies;
  • Knowledge of asset lifecycle management, sustainability, energy efficiency, multidisciplinary project delivery and consultant coordination.

Assets:

  • LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP), Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or equivalent designation would be considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of the House of Commons' Long-Term Vision and Plan (LTVP), Capital & Campus Program and operational requirements.
