Mechanical Engineering Design Manager

The Mechanical Engineering Design Manager will play a pivotal role in establishing and growing the mechanical engineering design department within the firm. This individual will manage and lead the team while also being involved in hands-on design work. A key responsibility will be to acquire new clients and build lasting relationships while driving the department’s growth. This position offers a base salary plus a bonus structure based on the new clients brought in by the candidate.

Responsibilities

1. Lead and participate in the design of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and sustainable energy systems, combining hands-on design and management.
2. Oversee and execute design work for complex projects, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with client specifications.
3. Manage the delivery of high-quality mechanical designs from concept to completion.
4. Oversee all aspects of mechanical engineering projects, including scheduling, resource allocation, and budgeting.
5. Ensure designs meet client specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
6. Lead project teams, coordinating with contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders to meet deadlines and budgets.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred).
2. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Alberta is required.
3. Registration as a Professional Engineer in the US is a plus.
4. Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering design, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
5. Proven ability to acquire new clients and secure projects.
6. Hands-on experience in mechanical design work, not just management.
7. Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and other design software.
