The FRIES organization is accountable for fit for purpose technical standards and asset management strategies that balance risk, asset performance and cost. FRIES also provides escalated subject matter expert (SME) support to resolve complex engineering challenges and support operations and project engineering functions.

The Balance of Plant (BOP) team within FRIES comprises senior engineering SMEs with deep technical expertise on systems and equipment core to gas facilities processes, but outside of the prime mover (i.e. compressor units and the main pipeline through facilities). The BOP team consists of Mechanical, Electrical and Civil engineering SMEs, and has four primary accountabilities – technical authority for engineering standards, Tier 3 (escalated) engineering support to operations engineering, development of asset management strategies, and projects engineering support.

BOP Team is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer who has deep industry and technical knowledge and experience in gas facilities mechanical systems characterized as BOP.

What you’ll do

  • Act as TC Energy’s Technical Authority and subject matter expert (SME) for Balance of Plant (BOP) mechanical systems and equipment on compressor station and meter station facility assets.

  • Act as the document contact for applicable engineering standards including maintaining and improving requirements based on performance, feedback and learning, and advise on variance requests.
  • Maintain understanding of and advise on legal requirements, external codes and standards, and act as TC Energy’s representative on targeted technical code committees and industry associations.
  • Establish criteria for and provide technical review of service providers and vendors to meet BOP standards.
  • Provide Tier 3 level SME support to Operations Engineering including specialized support for escalated and complex engineering issues, high risk incidents and investigations, and cross system issues and trends.
  • Support General Plant Maintenance Capital (GPMC) program development in collaboration with Operations Engineering including SME advisement on asset strategies, risk assessments, alternatives, and optimization.
  • Be a conduit for information sharing by communicating best practices, improvement opportunities, new technologies and general information to others in the organization.
  • Develop and oversee asset management and maintenance strategies to balance reliability performance, cost and risk for BOP systems.
  • Initiate and lead research and development projects to improve equipment design, engineering standards and/or methods.
  • Maintain strategic supplier and vendor relationships for asset management strategies, industry understanding, engagement in issues and innovation.
  • Support project engineering in design through critical review activities and strategic SME input including participation in critical design reviews where SME depth is necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be registered, or eligible to be registered, as a professional engineer (P. Eng) with APEGA in good standing
  • Minimum of 20 years of progressive relevant experience.

  • Technical experience in asset management, risk management, reliability optimization and condition-based maintenance.
  • Experience in the development and management of engineering standards, specifications and procedures.
