J.D. Irving, Limited (JDI) invites Mechanical Engineering students to join our Pulp & Paper Division in Saint John and Utopia, New Brunswick, for the Winter 2027 Work Term.

You will engage in project concept development, design, and funding work, while coordinating with mill teams and contractors. Gain experience in construction, commissioning, and start-up support, plus root-cause analysis with our reliability team.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering and in good academic standing.
• Team player with a safety-first mindset.
• Ability to effectively time manage multiple projects.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Long-term interest in an engineering career.

Responsibilities

• Project concept development and preliminary design assignments.
• Developing project funding applications and justifications.
• Participation in management of construction contracts and requisitioning materials and services.
• Project construction, commissioning, and start-up support activities.
• Collaborating with contractors and mill personnel to plan scope and execution of work packages.
• Working with the reliability team to perform root cause analysis and improve preventive maintenance.
