Job summary

Pratt & Whitney Canada in Longueuil seeks a Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join the Turbine Design group. You will design turbine components, lead Integrated Product Teams, and produce technical documentation for detail design and field support.

The role requires strong mechanical design knowledge, good English communication skills, and collaboration with cross-functional teams in a French-speaking environment. On-site work in Longueuil is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in mechanical design.
  • OIQ membership is recommended for the candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Generate mechanical design solutions for turbine engine components.
  • Lead Integrated Product Teams (IPT) across detail design activities.
  • Document IPT activities with engineering layouts, specs, memos and manufacturing support.
  • Prepare CAD models and design architectures for new engines.
  • Solve design problems on field engines and support engine development.
  • Coordinate design and analytical activities across teams.
  • Produce engineering documents communicating design solutions.

The P&WC Turbine Design group is responsible for the design of all Turbine components (Disc, Blade, Vane, Case, Bearing Cavity, Exhaust, Shroud Segment, various Seal….) as well as conducting preliminary structural analyses. Our responsibilities extend from preliminary design to field engine support.

You will be part of a team of specialists in the Turbine Design department.

This is a full-time position from Monday to Friday with flexible hours, based in Longueuil, and performed exclusively on-site.

What will your day-to-day look like?
  • Generate innovative mechanical design solutions for gas turbine engine (turbofan, turboprop, and turboshaft) problems, ensuring the program cost, weight, and performance requirements are met.
  • Lead, co-ordinate and schedule Integrated Product Teams (IPT) covering all design activities during the detail design phase.
  • Document the IPT’s activities in a design job package that includes producing engineering layout drawings, equipment specifications, technical memos, and support manufacturing and engine development after the detail design phase.
  • Prepare CAD models.
  • Solve mechanical design problems on field engines.
  • Design mechanical architectures and cross-sections for new engines.
  • Plan, schedule and coordinate design and analytical activities.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams during the design phase.
  • Produce engineering documents to communicate solutions to mechanical design problems.
What do you need to be successful?
  • To have completed a Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering Bachelor degree with a minimum of 4 years of experience. Member of OIQ is recommended.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design.
  • General knowledge of engineering disciplines (aerodynamics, heat transfer, structures, dynamics)
  • Strong communications skills, written and oral.
  • Knowledge of Manufacturing methods and CATIA V5 would be a benefit
  • This position is part of a French-speaking work environment, it requires a very good knowledge of English to read and understand, on a daily basis, documentation and technical terms that may emanate from international organizations, as well as to write and communicate in English with customers, suppliers or international colleagues.
