Job summary
BBA Consultants in Vancouver, BC, Canada, is seeking a Mechanical Designer for Industrial Building Systems to design and document building systems for mining, energy and heavy industrial facilities. Qualifications
- Two to six years of relevant mechanical design experience in industrial buildings
- College diploma in mechanical engineering technology, building systems or a related field
- Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD and experience producing coordinated mechanical drawings and models
- Working knowledge of applicable building codes, mechanical standards and design practices
- Strong communication, organization and collaboration skills
- Available for occasional short-term travel and site assignments
- Asset: experience with industrial, mining, energy or heavy-industry projects
- Asset: experience with field reviews, construction support, commissioning or troubleshooting
- Asset: intermediate French skills to facilitate collaboration with other BBA offices and clients in Québec
- Asset: knowledge of SmartPlant, CADWorx or other industrial design applications
Responsibilities
- Design mechanical systems including ventilation, heating, air conditioning, pumping, plumbing and piping
- Develop coordinated 2D drawings and 3D models for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, piping and other industrial building systems using Revit and AutoCAD
- Perform design calculations and support mechanical equipment selection and sizing
- Prepare design criteria, specifications, technical reports, material take-offs, bills of materials and construction documents
- Coordinate mechanical systems with process, piping, structural, electrical and architectural disciplines
- Participate in design reviews, project meetings, field investigations and client discussions
- Review vendor information and support procurement, construction, commissioning and troubleshooting activities
- Take ownership of assigned design work and contribute to continuous improvement of tools, standards and practices

JoinBBA’s Vancouver mechanical team and help design the building systems thatsupport major mining, energy and heavy industrial facilities. You’ll work withexperienced engineers and designers on a wide range of systems, including ventilation,heating, air conditioning, pumping, plumbing and piping, fire protection,compressed air, dust collection and energy recovery.
In this role, you’ll contribute toprojects from early studies to detailed design, construction and commissioning.You’ll develop your technical expertise, take ownership of assigned design workand collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients and vendors. As yourexperience grows, you’ll have opportunities to lead design packages, supportjunior team members and progress toward senior technical or projectresponsibilities.
- Contribute to all project phases, including conceptual, prefeasibility and feasibility studies, detailed design, construction support and commissioning
- Develop coordinated 2D drawings and 3D models for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, piping and other industrial building systems using Revit and AutoCAD
