The City of Burnaby seeks a Facilities Asset Systems professional to plan, coordinate and implement capital asset projects, overseeing asset replacements, preventive maintenance and facility repairs across HVAC, electrical and mechanical systems.

Qualifications

  • Completion of journeyperson trades certification or diploma in Building System Technology with substantial related experience.
  • Knowledge of municipal electrical, ventilation, refrigeration, and fire/life safety practices.
  • Ability to coordinate capital projects, prepare project specifications, and manage budgets.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee replacement and maintenance of HVAC, mechanical, and electrical components.

Job description

This position works in the Facilities Asset Systems unit. This is complex technical and inspectional work in planning, coordinating and implementing capital asset projects. An incumbent oversees capital asset replacements, preventative maintenance and facility maintenance repairs related to HVAC, mechanical and electrical systems; provides input to preparing the operating budget for the related work; monitors and analyzes asset performance and condition; recommends replacements or upgrades as needed. An incumbent evaluates, analyzes, and makes recommendations on the potential impacts of asset management programs and policies; prepares project specification plans, monitors project budgets and work in progress; oversees and reviews the work of contractors and supervises subordinates engaged in skilled and semi-skilled work. Considerable independence of judgement and action is exercised in all technical aspects of the work while policy matters are discussed with a supervisor. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of a related journeyperson trades certification such as HVAC-R, or completion of a diploma program in Building System Technology or a related discipline, plus considerable related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of municipal electrical, ventilation, refrigeration, fire/life safety practices including their application to project design, and in the preparation of plans, specifications, contract documents, and related materials; of HVAC and physical plant systems in large buildings; of building electrical systems ranging from low to high voltage; and of computerized Direct Digital Controls (DDC), preferably Delta, Reliable & Honeywell control systems. Ability to coordinate capital projects and prepare project specifications; to identify the need for capital asset repair and replacement, make recommendations on project design, construction and maintenance, and determine project priorities. Ability to oversee subordinates and contractors engaged in skilled and semi-skilled work. A valid Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia and a Class B Gasfitter Certification is required.

Schedule: 80 hours bi-weekly Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM -3:30 PM (Mutual Agreement between Monday to Sunday, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM)
