Job summary

OPENLANE in Ottawa, Ontario, is seeking an Apprentice Automotive Service Technician (Mechanic I or II) to diagnose, repair, maintain, and inspect customer and company vehicles. The role may require Saturday shifts and a focus on safety and quality work.

You will gain experience in diagnostics and repair across a range of vehicles, with growth opportunities within a global, public company that values teamwork and skill development.

Qualifications

  • Education or Certification as an Automotive Service Technician.
  • 1-3 years of repair and service experience on mechanical, electrical and electronic systems in various vehicles.
  • Valid driver’s abstract.
  • Basic computer skills and smartphone use.
  • Proactive self-starter with strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Vehicle inspections: perform pre- and post-sale inspections, frame inspections, and general inspections.
  • General maintenance: oil/fluid changes, tire changes, and routine maintenance tasks.
  • Repair services: assist with brakes, exhaust, alignments, ball joints, A/C service and auction-vehicle maintenance.
  • Shop support: general shop maintenance, move vehicles, assist other technicians with complex repairs.
  • Customer service: assist with sourcing parts, quotes, and completing work orders.

Mechanic I or II (Apprentice)

We are seeking an apprentice Automotive Service Technician with experience in automotive repair and inspections to diagnose, repair, maintain, and inspect customer and company vehicles. In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain further experience in diagnostics and repair. This role may require flexibility in schedule, including Saturday shifts.

You Will
  • Vehicle Inspections: Perform pre- and post-sale inspections (including test drives), frame inspections, and general vehicle inspections. Diagnose issues and identify necessary repairs.
  • General Maintenance: Conduct oil and fluid changes, tire changes, and other routine maintenance tasks.
  • Repair Services: Assist with brake jobs, exhaust system repairs, front-end alignments, ball joint replacements, air conditioning service, and maintenance of auction vehicles.
  • Shop Support: Complete general shop maintenance, move vehicles, and assist other technicians with complex repairs to expand your knowledge and experience.
  • Customer Service: (May) Assist with sourcing parts, providing quotes, and completing work orders.
Must Haves
  • Education or Certification as an Automotive Service Technician
  • 1-3 years of experience in repair and service of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems and components on a variety of vehicles
  • Valid driver's abstract
  • Basic computer skills & proficient smartphone use
  • A proactive self-starter with strong communication and problem-solving skills and work ethic
Nice to Haves
  • Registered Apprentice preferred, or desire to obtain Red Seal qualification
  • Can work independently and/or as a team as needed
Compensation

Range of Hourly: $25.00 - $30.00 CAD (Depending on experience, skill set, qualifications, and other relevant factors.)
