Job summary

School District 5 Southeast Kootenay in Cranbrook is seeking a Permanent Mechanic/ Supervisor to oversee the transportation department operations. The role requires leadership to manage maintenance, scheduling, budgeting, and liaison with ministries and contractors.

Flexible to on-call duties and urgent assignments. Requirements include BC Red Seal, Class 2 CDL with air endorsement or willingness to obtain, 4+ years in mechanical trades or supervisory roles, and CV Inspection license or

Qualifications

  • BC Journeyperson Mechanic certification (Red Seal).
  • Class 2 driver’s license with air endorsement or willingness to obtain.
  • Minimum four years of experience in the mechanical trade or similar supervisory position.
  • Commercial Transport Mechanic Certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Commercial Vehicle Inspection License or willingness to obtain.
  • Some experience in welding and sheet metal fabrication would be an asset.
  • Computer skills would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain district facilities.
  • Purchase supplies, parts, and equipment.
  • Prepare budgets and manage inventory.
  • Estimate and bill costs.
  • Supervise staff to assist with assigned tasks.
  • Ensure employee compliance to all guidelines, codes, regulations and acts relating to the position.
  • Replace school bus drivers on short notice from time to time.
  • Be available on call when required.
  • Provide information to the Director of Operations or designate of potentially serious and/or dangerous situations.
  • Liaise with school district personnel, various Ministries, enforcing agencies, inspectors, and general contractors.
  • Maintain, clean, service, adjust or repair tools and equipment related to the position.
  • Responsible for scheduling and coordination of work.
  • Implements and compiles, maintains maintenance program records and reports.
  • Responsible for the organization and operation of the district’s transportation departments.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY: An employee hired to perform a multitude of tasks and duties related to the organization and operation of the transportation departments. The employee is responsible to the Director of Operations or designate.

POSITION: PERMANENT

LOCATION: Cranbrook

HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours/week

WAGE RATE: $38.02 as per CUPE 4165 Collective Agreement

Qualifications Required
