Job summary

British Columbia Public School Employers' Association is seeking a casual on call bus driver to transport students from Cranbrook. You will perform pre-trip and daily inspections, manage students on the bus, and respond to varied traffic and safety conditions.

Hours may vary from 7:00–9:00 and 14:30–16:30. The role requires a Class 2 driver’s license with air endorsement, BC-grade 12 or equivalent, and Level 1 first aid.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent or willing to obtain.
• British Columbia Class 2 driver’s license with air endorsement.
• Level 1 first aid certificate.
• Experience operating an air-endorsed vehicle would be an asset.
• Computer Skills would be an asset.

Responsibilities

• Accurate completion of daily trip and pre-trip inspections, including fuelling and fluids.
• Accurate completion of required forms such as duty status records and reports, may require electronic tools.
• Responsible for safe operation of the vehicle and passenger management.
• May load, unload, and secure wheelchairs.
• Report unsafe conditions to supervisor or designate promptly.
• Keep bus clean daily and weekly as required.
• Administer first aid as required.
• Respond to accidents and dangerous situations appropriately.
• Attend meetings or courses such as student discipline as required.
• Provide driver’s license abstract annually.
• Extra-curricular trips may be required.
• Perform other job-related duties.

JOB SUMMARY: An employee hired to operate a school bus and other vehicles required to transport students.The employee is responsible to the Director of Operations or designee.

POSITION : CASUAL ON CALL
LOCATION: Cranbrook
HOURS OF WORK : 7:00 - 9:00 and 14:30 - 16:30 (times may vary)
WAGE RATE : As per CUPE Local 4165 Agreement $28.64

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

• Grade 12 or equivalent or willing to obtain

RESPONSIBLITIES AND DUTIES:

• Accurate completion of daily trip and pre-trip inspections, which may include adding fuel, oil, and other consumable fluids.
• Accurate completion of required forms such as duty status records, bus student misconduct reports, and traffic violations. This may require drivers to use electronic equipment.
• Ultimately responsible for all aspects regarding the safe operation of the vehicle and the management of all passengers.
• May be required to load, unload, and secure wheelchairs.
• Drivers must report unsafe conditions, including mechanical, traffic, road conditions, discipline and scheduling issues, to the supervisor or designate as soon as it is safe to do so.
• Ensure the bus is cleaned daily and weekly as required.
• Administer first aid as required.
• Provide appropriate action for accidents and other potentially serious and/or dangerous situations.
• Attend meetings or courses, such as student discipline, as required.
• Provide driver’s license abstract annually.
• Extra-curricular/co-curricular trips may be required.
• Perform other job-related duties.
