Job summary

BC Transit Corporation in Victoria, BC is seeking a Mechanic to maintain and repair our fleet on a compressed 4x10 schedule. You will work under Maintenance Supervisors, performing inspections and repairs across brakes, engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and more.

The role features shift premiums and potential overtime. We offer comprehensive benefits, a PSPP pension, and a strong People First culture.

Qualifications

  • Trade certifications required for on-road/heavy equipment.
  • Red Seal or equivalent recognized in BC.
  • Valid Class 5 license; Class 2 with Air Brakes preferred.
  • Criminal record check required.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, test, repair and maintain BC Transit’s fleet.
  • Work on brake systems, suspension, engines, hydraulics, electrical, A/C, fuel.
  • Identify and order parts; rebuild components and swap buses as needed.
  • Record activities and follow safety procedures.

What you'll be doing...

Mechanics at BC Transit currently work a compressed work schedule of 4 ten-hour shifts with 3 consecutive days off. Shift schedules are Monday-Thursday, Tuesday-Friday and Friday-Monday days and nights. We are open from 04:30am to 02:30am.

Under the direction of Maintenance Supervisors or designated Tradespersons, will inspect, troubleshoot, test, repair and perform maintenance on BC Transit’s fleet, which includes brake systems, suspension, engines, hydraulics, electrical, air conditioning, fuel systems, transmissions and driveline components. Will be required to identify and order parts as well as rebuild components and change off buses needing repairs as required.

  • Heavy Mechanical Trades - Truck and Transport Mechanic (order of preference as below);
  • Truck and Transport Red Seal Trade Qualification (On-Road) or;
  • Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician Red Seal Endorsement (Off-Road) or;
  • Automotive Trade qualification with extensive experience repairing Transport or Heavy Duty equipment may also be considered
  • Must have aCVIP inspector certification
  • Valid Drivers License – minimum Class 5 (preference for Class 2 or 3 with Air Brakes)
  • Class 2 Learners AND a Temporary #15 air brake restriction/endorsement required for the first day of employment or already hold a Class 3 License with Air Brake Endorsement
  • Ability to obtain and hold a valid Class 2 Drivers License with air brakes after on-the-job training
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive ICBC medical examination relating to the Motor Vehicle Act requirement for a Class 2 Drivers License
  • Completion of a clear Criminal Record Check and/or Vulnerable Sector Search
  • A good understanding and working knowledge of electrical, hydraulic and air brake systems is required
  • Proficient in computer systems use to access schematics, repair procedures, etc… as well as to perform thorough record keeping of own activities performed
