Job summary

Transdev Canada is hiring a part-time Mechanic in Vernon, BC to diagnose, repair and maintain transit buses, lead inspections, and ensure safety standards.

You will service heavy-duty diesel systems, brakes, HVAC, and wheelchair lifts, perform scheduled maintenance, and respond to roadside breakdowns as required.

BC Red Seal certification is highly valued; CVSE/CVIP inspections and unionized, 20–30 hours per week with potential career growth within a North American mobility group.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of practical experience maintaining heavy-duty commercial fleets.
  • Experience on BC Transit fleet vehicles (e.g., New Flyer, Nova Bus, Vicinity) is a significant asset.
  • Red Seal certification or eligibility is required/valued; CVSE inspection credentials are a plus.

Job description

Transdev is now hiring a part-time Mechanic for our Vernon location!

In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining vehicles and equipment, leading inspections, and ensuring compliance with safety standards and procedures.

Your role
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, electronic, and diesel systems on transit buses.
  • Perform scheduled servicing, inspections, lubrication, fluid changes, and safety checks.
  • Ensure buses meet CVIP, CVSE, and provincial safety requirements.
  • Respond to roadside breakdowns and perform mobile repairs or arrange towing when required.
  • Maintain brakes, steering, suspension, HVAC, wheelchair lifts, doors, and other bus systems.
  • Notify supervisor of potentially dangerous equipment and corrective action taken.
  • Evaluate completed work prior to release and seek approval where required.
  • Complete work orders, maintenance records, parts usage, and compliance documentation
  • Identify required parts and communicate inventory needs to the shop or parts department.
  • Adhere to Transdev's standards, policies and procedures.
  • Move vehicles safely between job and work area.
  • Perform other responsibilities as requested or required.

Your profile
  • You have 3 to 5 years of practical experience maintaining heavy-duty commercial fleets. Previous experience working on BC Transit fleet vehicles (such as New Flyer, Nova Bus, or Vicinity motor coaches) is a significant asset.
  • You have experience working with heavy-duty diesel emission systems (DPF, DEF) and HVAC systems to comply with BC Motor Vehicle Act emission standards.
  • You have a Red Seal certification as a Commercial Transport Mechanic or Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician.
  • You hold or is eligible to obtain a provincial CVSE Authorized Inspector certification to perform Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) semi-annual and annual inspections.
  • You have a high school diploma or GED (required).
  • You have a valid class 2 BC driver’s license with an Air Brake Endorsement.
  • You have an appropriate mechanic’s tool set.
  • You have advanced problem-solving ability.
  • This is a part-time, unionized position in Vernon, BC.
  • Working hours 20-30/week. Timings vary based on business needs. Weekends, early mornings and late evenings may be required.
