Overview

Fresh Market Foods is looking for a Meat Manager who can lead a team, slice through challenges, and still keep a sense of humor while keeping our counters full and customers happy. If you can manage people, profits, and prime cuts all at once, this is the role for you!

Responsibilities
  • Provide overall direction and leadership to the Meat Department, ensuring smooth daily operations and alignment with company goals.
  • Develop and execute sales strategies, monitor trends, set competitive pricing, and lead promotional activities to achieve revenue and margin targets
  • Oversee all meat preparation and cutting practices, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and high-quality standards across beef, pork, poultry, and specialty items.
  • Lead the development of new products such as smoked meat, marinated cuts, and prepared items to expand offerings and meet customer demand
  • Oversee ordering, stock rotation, yield management, and waste reduction to maintain profitability and minimize loss.
  • Ensure department equipment (saws, slicers, grinders, smokers) is properly used, maintained, and serviced to support safe and efficient operations.
  • Ensure full compliance with food safety regulations, inspections, sanitation protocols, and internal company policies.
  • Oversee WHMIS training, maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and lead health and safety reviews to create a safe work environment.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and motivate butchers and clerks, setting clear performance expectations and providing growth opportunities.
  • Conduct evaluations, provide coaching, and address performance issues to build a results-driven, professional team culture.
  • Lead the team in delivering excellent customer service, managing custom orders, resolving complaints, and building strong community relationships.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office and Dayforce for scheduling, payroll, and reporting; review financials, manage budgets, and implement cost-control strategies.
  • Drive continuous improvement, track department KPIs, optimize inventory forecasting and labor scheduling, ensure proper labeling and traceability, plan customer-focused promotions, and mentor high-potential staff for future leadership role
  • Utilize and use Just-In-Time (JIT) ordering to maintain freshness, minimize waste, and optimize stock levels.
Qualifications and Skills
  • High school education preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience, with strong leadership and communication skills.
  • 1 to 2 years of previous managerial experience in a Meat industry or retail environment.
  • Proficient in operations, including product knowledge, inventory management, and customer service.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge or certification in safe food handling is considered an asset.
  • Comfortable using scheduling, payroll, and inventory software (e.g., Dayforce, Microsoft Office).
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, including weekends and holidays

Transportation
