Position Summary: Math 101-325 – Introductory Finite Mathematics I

This is an introductory course intended to familiarize the students with the basic concepts of arithmetic, number theory, set theory, symbolic logic, and finite mathematics. Topics include logic, sets, numeration systems, arithmetic in non-decimal systems, system of integers, elementary number theory and modular arithmetic. There will be a strong emphasis on critical thinking, problem solving, understanding concepts and their applications.

The semester is from January 6, 2027 to April 28, 2027 with the final exam period running from April 15, 2027 to April 28, 2027.

Expectations for Sessional Lecturers include, but aren’t limited to, the following:

  • Preparing the course outline, designing relevant assignments, evaluating and grading student work, and submitting student grades by the required deadline.
  • Teaching course content that follows the course description, established learning objectives, and university academic guidelines.
  • Delivering lectures throughout the term at the time, days, and location set by the University.
  • Encouraging and maintaining a safe and collaborative classroom environment.
  • Providing regular support to students on course work during office hours, in class, and through email.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements

Master of Science (MSc) in Mathematics & Statistics

  • Demonstrated related experience appropriate to the course content description as listed above;
  • Superior communications skills (both written and verbal);
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Recent teaching experience in a post-secondary environment is considered an asset.

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada, and the work associated with this position must be performed within Canada.

Work Hours: This course is offered on Thursdays, 4:30 pm – 7:30 pm

The Sessional Lecturer is expected to teach remote via zoom (synchronous) for each of the lectures and provide regular weekly office hours for students.
