As a member of the military, Materials Technicians maintain and repair land vehicles and related equipment. They belong to the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Branch of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).

Work environment
Materials Technicians work in various environments across Canada and on deployed operations worldwide. They may work in workshops, outdoors, or in temporary accommodations, supporting Army units, the Royal Canadian Navy, or the Royal Canadian Air Force.
Joining the Regular Force involves relocation to your first base after training, with some flexibility. The Primary Reserve Force allows part-time work with minimal relocations, typically one night per week and some weekends.
Entry requirements
No prior experience is necessary. The minimum education requirement is the completion of Grade 10 or Secondary 4 in Quebec, including Grade 10 Math and Science. Foreign education may be accepted.
Training
The training includes:
On-the-job training lasts about 18 months at a CAF Base, with opportunities for advanced and specialized training, including courses in welding, machining, non-destructive testing, and safety.
