Master Electrician

Public Works - Operations Support

1 Regular Full-Time Position

Compensation: $39.59/hr to $41.60/hr (Plus an additional $3.00 hourly premium)

Work Mode and Location: Onsite at 2 Copper Road, Brampton, ON and various sites located within Peel Region

Hours of work:40 hours per week

Providing electrical support to the Public Works Facility Services Remote Sites department, including managing and maintaining electrical systems across various buildings. Responsibilities include preventive and demand maintenance, emergency response, troubleshooting PLCs, servicing motor control centers and instrumentation, overseeing installations and ESA/CSS programs, and offering technical consultation on electrical documents, contracts, and reports. This role involves maintaining, repairing, and upgrading electrical systems at various Public Works sites, including Recycling Centres, Composting Facilities, Gas and Leachate Systems, and other remote locations.

What you will do in this role:

  • CRCs & Hazardous Waste Depots: Perform electrical work such as ballast replacements, lighting upgrades, plug/receptacle installations, dock lifter repairs, and electrical retrofits in both general and hazardous waste areas.
  • Composting Facilities: Service electrical components including PLCs, shredders, cooling and air systems, control cabinets, and compost-related equipment.
  • Gas & Leachate Systems: Maintain and troubleshoot electrical systems for SCADA, PLCs, blowers, methane detectors, instrumentation, and remote monitoring equipment.
  • Miscellaneous Duties: Support systems such as surge protection, motors, dust extraction, vibration harmonics, and other electrical tasks.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate industrial equipment safely in hazardous environments. Use aerial lifts, boom trucks, and rope/repelling equipment. Work at heights and in confined spaces with proper certifications.
  • Contractor Oversight: Provide direction to contractors/vendors and lead teams to ensure service quality and safety compliance.
  • Work Locations: Assigned to a variety of indoor and outdoor remote sites across the Region including landfills, water/wastewater facilities, communication towers, and public buildings.

What the role requires:

  • A Master Electrician licence (309A) is required, combined with a minimum of eight (8) years of work-related experience, preferably in a Public Works environment. The license must be valid and in good standing.
  • An electrical Journeyman Certificate of Qualification is required, through the successful completion of a four (4) year apprenticeship program.
  • Working at Heights training and certification.
  • Confined Space training and certification.
  • Aerial lifts and/or work platform training and certification.
  • Polished verbal and written communication skills
  • Capable of accurately completing all required forms and reports.
  • Physically able to perform all job requirements.
  • Must have previous experience with three-phase electrical power systems, equipment, and controls.
  • Technically competent to diagnose and troubleshoot electrical-related issues
  • Must be proficient in MS Office, utilizing Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Extensive knowledge of program logic controllers, motor control, instrumentation, and automated plans.
  • Superior interpersonal and public relation skills, with an emphasis in providing the highest level of service in all interactions with clients, coworkers, contractors, etc.
  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize workload effectively in a constantly changing environment.
  • Must have a valid G-Class diver’s licence with daily access to a vehicle.
