Marketing Representative, Calgary, AB

The Marketing Representative will be responsible for maximizing value of transactional activities, optimization of MEG’s marketing assets, and maintaining exceptional relationship management, supporting MEG as the preferred counterparty for industry alignment. The position is critical to delivering Marketing’s strategic agenda and will be focused on efforts that continually strive to improve the netbacks achieved on MEG’s crude sales.

The Marketing Representative will take ownership of defined market locations, expand MEG’s reach to new markets, and network with key stakeholders both within the company and throughout industry. Reporting to the Manager of Marketing, this position will interact with a variety of internal groups including Production and Finance (Accounting, Treasury & Risk Management). Externally, the role will interact with customers in both domestic and international markets.

Your day-to-day will include:

  • Maximize crude oil netbacks through transactional activities
  • Optimize marketing assets to reduce costs and drive additional value capture
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key counterparties in both domestic and international markets
  • Negotiate spot and term contracts to maximize value and de-risk the sales portfolio
  • Continually assess crude oil market inputs and pricing for strategy development
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of production forecasts, oil scheduling and cash flow delivery
  • Track and benchmark transactional performance and develop sales forecasts
  • Maintaining sufficient understanding of other marketing desks for coverage when required

What you will bring to MEG:

  • University degree in business, engineering, or other related field
  • 5-10 years previous experience in heavy crude oil commercial or marketing roles
  • Strong understanding of heavy crude oil supply/demand fundamentals along with detailed knowledge of U.S. and Canadian midstream and refining assets
  • Established network of heavy crude oil industry contacts in both Canada and the US
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to effectively interact with various internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong commercial acumen and proven track record of negotiating and executing sales contracts
  • Demonstrates strong collaboration in team-orientated environment
  • Critical thinker with strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Maintains a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Positive attitude towards continuous learning and improvement
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
