Job description

About the Company

Makeship empowers influencers, creators, and brands of all sizes to develop and launch limited-edition products that matter to their fans. Leveraging our design, manufacturing, and marketing expertise, we work with our partners to bring their products to life through our community-powered crowdfunding platform. Each product is given a window of 21 days to be funded by the community before we produce and ship to fans worldwide. We put our brand behind every product and guarantee quality and ethical sourcing.

We're profitable, we have a three-year revenue growth of over 200%, ranking us 97th in 2024 and 86th on The Globe and Mail’s Canada’s Top Growing Companies of 2025 list. We are also excited to announce that Makeship has officially been Great Place to Work-Certified™ for 3 years in a row! Learn more about us at Makeship.com.

About the Role

During this exciting phase of our growth, you’ll play a huge role in shaping our culture, our process, and the future of Makeship. Every day, you’ll collaborate, learn more about the content creation space, and watch your work impact the company and the community!

We want this to be the best work experience of your life, so we’ll pay you well, offer great benefits, invest deeply in your growth, and welcome you with our branded swag. You will also be joining one of Canada's fastest-growing start‑ups!

What We Are Looking For

A marketing leader who would excel in a role that is equal parts strategy and hands‑on execution. We are looking for someone who can dial all the way up to departmental strategy and then back down to how to make an individual creator’s launch stand out, then execute on the strategy.

This role requires an individual who prefers to operate with high autonomy and accountability but who also takes a high degree of pride in keeping everyone looped into their progress, updates, and work.

Preference for individuals who have managed paid agencies before and who are strong in social. Design skills and aesthetic are a plus.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Input on strategy. Be able to critique and input on existing high-level departmental plans.
  • Shape launch strategy. Come to the table with cool, exciting, unexpected activation ideas, not just campaign execution. You should be excited to go deep into an IP's lore and fandom to find the angle that makes a launch feel special.
  • Work the agency relationship. Be our day-to-day partner with our paid marketing agency: brief them, keep the strategy sharp, make sure their ad creative and media plans are performing and that the ads they are putting out feel fan .
  • Own social execution. Be able to bring campaigns to life across channels with a sharp eye for what looks and feels on-brand.
  • Write (really well). Write original, fun copy that sounds fan native. You'll be hands‑on with copy across social, campaign, and launch materials, and should be an excellent, above‑average copywriter/editor — someone who can make on‑brand feel genuine.
  • Operate independently. This is a self‑sufficient, self‑starting role. You should be comfortable owning a project end-to-end, building processes that don’t exist and enforcing follow‑through across stakeholders, flagging risks early, and contributing to high-level strategy conversations.
What You Bring
  • 5-7 years of marketing generalist experience.
  • Expertise in social media and email marketing.
  • Experience managing agency partners.
  • A strategic thinker who is energized by getting into the weeds.
  • Genuine curiosity about fandoms, IP, and pop culture, with the instinct to translate “what fans love about this” into activation ideas that feel authentic rather than corporate.
  • A sharp, funny, versatile writer and editor rolled into one.
  • Scrappy and resourceful by nature.
  • Highly self‑sufficient, organized, and comfortable with ambiguity — this role will need to prioritize across two teams during ramp‑up.
Bonus
  • Experience marketing licensed IP, entertainment properties, gaming, or fandom-driven brands.
  • Existing relationships or familiarity with the streamer/creator landscape.
  • Experience working with or managing an external marketing/creative agency.
Benefits & Perks
  • Work remotely anywhere in Canada and/or access any of our hubs
  • Health and dental benefits from day 1
  • 4 weeks of paid vacation (including paid time off on your birthday)
  • Additional 1 week of paid time off during the holidays
  • Virtual & In‑Person Social Events
  • Annual Paid Volunteer Day Off
  • 1:1 RRSP Matching Program Up to 3%
  • $500 Pre-Tax Annual Health & Wellness Allowance
  • $400 Pre-Tax Home Office Setup Allowance
  • $65 Pre-Tax Monthly Phone Allowance
  • Maternity and Parental Leave Top-Up Program
  • Education Assistance Program
  • Employee Referral Program
  • Tenured Rewards Program

Salary Band: $90,000-105,000 CAD per annum plus variable commission. Individual salaries will be dependent on unique skills, experience and qualifications.
