Job summary

Englobe in Atlantic Canada seeks a senior marine structural engineer to lead design, assessment, and construction oversight of wharves, piers, and related facilities.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, ensure compliance with Canadian codes, and deliver clear technical reports while promoting health and safety. A Bachelor's in Civil Engineering with Structural specialization is required; 5+ years in marine engineering; P.Eng. eligibility preferred. Hybrid work model.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Structural Engineering; a Master's is an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years of marine engineering experience.
  • Experience with design, assessment, and construction of marine facilities.
  • Proficiency with Canadian codes, standards, and industry practices.
  • P.Eng. registration or eligibility preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication for client-facing reports.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate health and safety leadership by promoting Englobe's policies and practices.
  • Conduct marine structural assessments, inspections, and site reviews with clear reports.
  • Evaluate marine structures made of concrete, steel, timber, and other materials.
  • Prepare design calculations, drawings, specs, and construction cost estimates.
  • Coordinate activities with structural engineers and multidisciplinary teams in Atlantic Canada.
  • Develop design concepts and practical engineering solutions for site requirements.
  • Review shop drawings and provide technical recommendations during design and construction.
  • Monitor project progress and report updates to project managers and senior staff.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement with new ideas and lessons learned.

Your Main Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate a commitment to health and safety leadership by adhering to and promoting Englobe's health and safety policies, procedures, and practices;
  • Conduct marine structural condition assessments, inspections, and site reviews, and prepare clear, comprehensive technical reports;
  • Evaluate and analyze marine structures composed of concrete, steel, timber, and other construction materials;
  • Prepare engineering deliverables including design calculations, drawings, specifications, and construction cost estimates;
  • Support the planning, execution, and delivery of marine infrastructure projects across Atlantic Canada;
  • Coordinate project activities and technical deliverables with structural engineers and multidisciplinary project teams;
  • Develop design concepts, sketches, and practical engineering solutions to address project and site requirements;
  • Review shop drawings and provide technical recommendations during design and construction phases;
  • Monitor project progress and communicate timely updates to project managers and senior team members;
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by sharing innovative ideas, technical expertise, and lessons learned.
What Makes You Unique
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Structural Engineering; a Master's degree is considered an asset;
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in marine engineering, preferably within a consulting engineering or marine infrastructure environment;
  • Experience with the design, assessment, and construction of marine facilities such as wharves, piers, launchways, slipways, floating docks, shoreline protection structures, breakwaters, and related infrastructure;
  • Strong knowledge of applicable Canadian engineering codes, standards, and industry best practices;
  • Experience in marine structural design, construction inspection, contract administration, project coordination, and project management;
  • Solid understanding of marine construction methods and the interpretation of engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear technical documentation and client-facing reports;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize competing demands, and collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams;
  • Proficiency with structural analysis and design software used in marine and civil engineering applications;
  • Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGNB, Engineers Nova Scotia, PEGNL, or another Canadian engineering regulatory body.
