Job summary

Davie in Lévis, QC is seeking a Marine Automation Specialist to lead design, integration and testing for the Canadian Coast Guard’s future fleet of six Program Icebreakers. You will support engineering in drawings, specs and testing, and ensure systems are fit for continuous operation.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree and at least five years in marine electrical engineering, with knowledge of classification societies and flag states.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience in marine electrical engineering or related field.
  • Experience with classification societies and flag states.
  • Experience in shipyards is an asset.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Fluency in French and English (written and spoken).

Responsibilities

  • Support Engineering in producing and reviewing drawings and specifications.
  • Assist in design, development, and testing of engineering solutions.
  • Ensure CMS, safety regulations and best practices compliance.
  • Review subcontractor design work.
  • Support and maintain weight records.
  • Ensure compliance with classification societies, IMO, Transport Canada rules.
  • Verify automated systems are fit for purpose and operate continuously.
  • Liaise with vendors to ensure technical specs.
  • Engage with technical disciplines to align functionality and sequencing.
  • Attend FATs as required.
  • Manage input/output lists for automated systems.
  • Support ship acceptance and commissioning.

Role

As the Marine Automation Specialist, you will support the design, development, integration, and testing of the Canadian Coast Guard’s future fleet of six Program Icebreakers. This role will lead structural design efforts and support ship construction. You will:

Responsibilities
  • Support the Engineering Department in producing and reviewing engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Assist in the design, development, and testing of engineering solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with the Corporate Management System (CMS), safety regulations, and best practices.
  • Review and support subcontractor design work.
  • Support and maintain weight records.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and standards, including the rules and regulations of classification societies, IMO, and Transport Canada.
  • Ensure the ship’s automated systems are fit for purpose and can function continuously.
  • Liaise directly with vendors to ensure compliance with technical specifications.
  • Engage with all technical disciplines to ensure functional alignment and sequencing deliver the expected performance of automated systems.
  • Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) as required.
  • Manage the input/output (I/O) list for automated systems.
  • Support ship acceptance and commissioning.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the field of marine electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Experience working with the rules and regulations of classification societies and flag states.
  • Familiarity with the implementation of new technologies would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a shipyard is considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to complete multiple, complex, detail-oriented tasks and projects on time.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Proficiency in French and English (written and spoken). Fluency in English is required for this position, as you will interact with English-speaking suppliers, stakeholders or clients.
