Job summary

Davie in Canada seeks a Manager, Systems Engineering to lead a team of engineers and technical specialists in the design, development, integration and testing of the Coast Guard's icebreaker fleet. You will coordinate with vendors and internal disciplines to ensure technical alignment and timely delivery.

The role requires a strong background in marine engineering with 10+ years' experience and 5+ years in leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Naval Architecture.
  • 10+ years' experience in marine engineering or ship design.
  • 5+ years' leadership experience.
  • Experience with classification societies and flag states regulations.
  • Experience in a shipyard is an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple complex tasks on time.
  • Fluent in French and English; English required for interactions with suppliers and clients.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of engineers and technical specialists.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and standards, including classification societies, IMO, and Transport Canada.
  • Liaise with vendors to ensure compliance with technical specifications.
  • Engage with all technical disciplines to manage technical changes.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the organization.
  • Manage relationships with stakeholders and act as a technical liaison between internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide performance reports to senior management.
  • Monitor and manage overall project risks.
  • Monitor and manage subcontractors and associated risks.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual requirements within the scope of responsibility.
  • Participate in risk reviews and engineering estimates.

Role

As the Manager, Systems Engineering, you will support the design, development, integration, and testing of the Canadian Coast Guard’s future fleet of six Program Icebreakers. This role will manage a team of engineers and technical specialists. More specifically you will:

  • Manage a team of engineers and technical specialists.
  • Ensure compliance with and support the development of the Corporate Management System (CMS).
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and standards, including the rules and regulations of classification societies, IMO, and Transport Canada.
  • Liaise directly with vendors to ensure compliance with technical specifications.
  • Engage with all technical disciplines to ensure effective management of technical changes.
  • Foster and promote a culture of continuous improvement within the organization.
  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders and act as a technical liaison between internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in marine engineering or ship design.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ leadership experience.
  • Experience working with the rules and regulations of classification societies and flag states.
  • Experience working in a shipyard is considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to complete multiple, complex, detail‑oriented tasks and projects on time.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Proficiency in French and English (written and spoken). Fluency in English is required for this position, as you will interact with English‑speaking suppliers, stakeholders, or clients.
