Job summary

Dynacast Ltd. in Peterborough, Ontario is hiring for a full-time production associate to operate automated cells, perform quality checks, and support continuous production to meet customer delivery commitments.

Shifts include days, afternoons, and nights with rotating schedules. Applicants should have Grade 12 and at least one year in manufacturing with strong dexterity and the ability to lift items as required.

Responsibilities

• Operate Automated Cells to produce assemblies that meet quality specs and delivery commitments.
• Check parts visually and with gauges; notify QA and supervisor of defects.
• Set up machines and install dies and tools; coordinate with Set Up tech and Supervisor.
• Record scrap and causes; manage quality holds and documentation.
• Assist with machine troubleshooting and report issues beyond repair capability.
• Complete daily shift reports and perform PM tasks as required.

Job description

Position Summary

This position exists in order to consistently produce quality workmanship in the Customer Automation Cells, according to work instructions and in support the company's ability to meet customer shipment delivery commitments.

*Note - the normal hours for this position are Monday-Friday on days (7am-3pm), afternoons (3pm-11pm) or nights (11pm-7am). Currently we are operating a continental shift rotation - week 1 - Mon/Tues/Fri/Sat/Sun and week 2 Wed/Thurs (12 hours shifts - days 7am-7pm or nights 7pm-7am).

Key Duties & Responsibilities

To safely operate specific Automated Cells to produce assemblies, that exceed customer and quality specifications and enabling a customer delivery commitment of 98%.

• Maintain correct level and type of zinc in the pots.
• Produce Taser assemblies that meet or exceed established production rates.
• Visually check parts for any defects/non-conformities, conduct 'in-process' checking of parts using 'fit and form' gauges and immediately notify Quality Assurance and Shift Supervisor of any defects.
• Skim dross from the melt pots as required.
• Set-up machines as per instructions, determine proper die type, install tool and secondary equipment as required, and notify Set Up technician & Supervisor.
• Assist with Toolmakers to resolve die related problems, closely monitor casting quality on re-set dies, obtain first-off from QA or notify Set Up technician to assist in process changes. Notify tool room or shift supervisor when it is believed that the set-up data is not correct.
• As soon as fault is detected or suspected, segregate the suspect material from the previous good product and determine the clean break point. Immediately move all suspect material to the Quality Hold area. Record the production scrap part number, quantity and suspected or known cause.
• Remove and store die record data and sign off data/documentation where required. Place end of run samples with die for return to tool room and complete corrective action ticket for tool room.
• Assist with troubleshooting machine problems and notify Set Up of issues not able to be repaired by the Operator;
• Complete daily shift report email in QAD for each cell.
• Perform daily A.M. tasks and weekly/monthly P.M. tasks, as required.

To maintain availability of adequate supplies at the Automated Cells to ensure the continuous, uninterrupted production of quality products and to package product in boxes, weigh count and label for shipment/storage.

• Package finished assemblies into boxes, weigh count, seal and label;
• Sorting own scrap/assemblies to avoid build up during shift;
• Cleaning darts when needed;
• Load boxes onto skid.

To regularly perform required housekeeping duties to continually maintain a safe and clean work area.

• Clean/wash/vacuum machines each shift.
• Wash and mop work area floor each shift.
• Ensure oncoming shifts have sufficient parts.

To perform housekeeping and other miscellaneous duties to support manufacturing requirements at the desired run speed, with minimum machine downtime. Assist with completing Basic Preventative Maintenance (PM) of the production equipment in line with the PM checklist.

• Daily drosing of the pot, cleaning around the base, clean floor;
• Weekly wipe-down and inspection of hydraulic lines and leaks check for burned or damaged cabling, wipe-down and cleaning of guards, operating head, light, etc.
• Piston changes and adjustment, etc.

To perform duties in a safe and efficient manner at all times, while implementing 5S initiatives, including kaizen events and audits, as required.

Education, Skills & Experience Required

• Minimum Grade 12;
• Minimum of one (1) year production/machine/manufacturing experience, preferably within an ISO certified manufacturing environment;
• Previous experience in a capacity requiring part/product visual inspection for extended periods, preferred.
• Previous experience in a fast paced automated production environment, preferred;
• Advanced level of manual dexterity skills;
• Advanced level of understanding automated equipment;
• Intermediate knowledge of interrelating operational PLC screens for diagnostics;
• Intermediate level mechanical aptitude skills;
• Ability to lift continuously over the course of the shift;
• 20/20 vision (natural or assisted) to visually detect part non-conformances;
• A willingness to illuminate process waste using Lean techniques.
