Job summary

Dynacast Peterborough is seeking a Manufacturing/Process Engineer to develop and implement new manufacturing processes, optimize equipment, and support continuous improvement in a high-volume die cast environment.

The role involves studying product requirements, conducting capability studies, ensuring adherence to quotes and setup sheets, and collaborating with engineering and production teams. The position is full-time, on-site in Peterborough, Ontario.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Manufacturing, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum of three years in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
• Die cast/injection molding experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop/improve manufacturing processes by researching methods and testing equipment.
• Perform machine/tool capability studies and document results.
• Ensure machine settings meet quoted cycle times and setup sheets; perform root-cause analysis if deviations occur.
• Determine production data and analyze trends for each area.
• Support plant-wide continuous improvement initiatives.
• Assist with workflow, space planning and equipment layout for efficiency.

Dynacast Peterborough is dedicated to designing, building, manufacturing, and delivering quality die cast components. Below are additional details about what is offered at the Peterborough location:

• 40 multi-slide proprietary zinc die casting machines ranging from 12 to 21 tons
• Five multi-slide proprietary zinc die casting machines ranging from 70 to 200 tons
• Injected Metal Assembly (IMA) up to one ton
• Precision tool building with in-house capabilities
• Design, prototyping, and modeling services
• Wide range of finishing surfaces available including tumbling, polishing, shot blasting and thermal de-burring
• Cosmetic or protective coating equipment either through certified suppliers or in-house
• Wide range of secondary operations including CNC machining, tapping, reaming, and drilling

Position Summary:

This position applies technical knowledge and expertise in the development and implementation of new and improved manufacturing processes, procedures and equipment.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

• Develop/improve manufacturing processes by studying product requirements and then researching, designing, specifying, modifying and testing manufacturing methods and equipment;
• Perform and document machine/tool capability studies;
• Ensure that machine settings and programs are adhered to during production as per quoted cycle times and set-up sheets and perform a root cause analysis if they are not;
• Determine job production data, including production time and material consumption for each manufacturing area to identify, summarize and analyze trends;
• Initiate or otherwise support plant-wide continuous improvement initiatives;
• Assist with manufacturing efficiency improvement by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements and equipment layout;
• Provide support to engineering department on feasibility and prepare quotes for new and existing programs, when required;
• Conduct studies and implement programs to determine optimum utilization of materials, machinery and resources;
• Document and diagram processes and update/maintain SOP's. Perform time studies, if required;
• Achieve facility targets and standards in safety, quality, delivery and cost;
• Continuous improvement of process capability, process control and tooling performance;
• Recommend development and improvement opportunities for manufacturing equipment and processes;
• Investigate new and emerging technologies to improve quality and efficiency.

Education & Experience Required:

• Degree or Diploma in Manufacturing, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering;
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment;
• Previous die cast/injection molding machine experience preferred.

Skills & Knowledge Required:

• Advanced level mechanical aptitude skills;
• Able to work in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment, demonstrating excellent organizational and time-management skills;
• Knowledgeable in APQP and PFMEA documentation and processes;
• Able to read mechanical drawings;
• Intermediate to advanced level computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office programs.
• Project Management software experience considered an asset.
