Job summary

The Government of Yukon is seeking a permanent, full-time Manager of Food Services and Environmental Services based in Whitehorse. You will lead operations across long-term care homes, guiding nutrition, linen, waste and environmental services while ensuring safety and quality care for residents.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Long-Term Care, you will drive planning, resource stewardship and continuous improvement, collaborating with families, clinical teams and stakeholders to deliver

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Hospitality Industry or Food and Nutritional Sciences required.
  • Supervisory experience in a healthcare environment is required.
  • Experience overseeing housekeeping, laundry and/or food services preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for Food Services and Environmental Services across long-term care homes.
  • Ensure services contribute to safe, high-quality resident care through planning, resource stewardship and quality improvement.
  • Lead diverse teams and ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.

This posting will be used to fill 1 permanent full-time position working 75 hours bi-weekly. This job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the beautiful Yukon. Your role

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Long-Term Care, this position provides leadership and oversight for Food Services and Environmental Services across long-term care homes. The position ensures that support services contribute to safe, high-quality resident care through effective planning, resource stewardship, and continuous quality improvement. The Manager leads diverse teams, drives operational excellence, ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, and works collaboratively with residents, families, clinical teams, and stakeholders to deliver integrated and sustainable services.

Essential Qualifications
  • Diploma in Hospitality Industry or Food and Nutritional Sciences.
  • Supervisory experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Experience providing or overseeing housekeeping, laundry, and/or food services

Desired Knowledge, Skills And Suitability

If selected for an interview, candidates should have, and may be assessed on the following:

  • Strong knowledge of nutrition services principles and the science of nutrition as it applies to general nutrition.
  • Strong knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC), safe work practices, and workplace health and safety requirements applicable to healthcare support services.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and manage healthcare support service operations, including nutrition, linen and laundry, waste management, and/or environmental services.
  • Ability to interpret, implement, and monitor compliance with regulatory, accreditation, infection prevention and control, workplace health and safety, and operational standards.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in a complex operational environment.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships with diverse individuals and teams.

Job Requirements
  • Frequent travel within Whitehorse for meetings and operational needs.
  • Lifting up to 50lb Exposure to infectious agents when interacting with residents in long-term care settings, requiring adherence to infection prevention and control practices.
  • Exposure to temperatures (heat and cold), sharp items, and latex products
  • Potential exposure to second hand smoke, or animals (pet therapy program).
