Position Summary

Primaris REIT is currently hiring a dedicated and enthusiastic Manager, Security to join our team at our Southgate Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. If you have a background in Security Protection, supervisory experience and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, this exciting opportunity is perfect for you!

  • Please note this position is required to work shift work including evenings and weekends

Role

As the Security Manager you will oversee and enhance the safety and security measures at the property through developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive security programs that ensure the protection of shoppers, employees, and property. You will also collaborate with internal stakeholders, law enforcement agencies, and external security partners to maintain a secure and welcoming environment for all visitors.

  • Participation in all team building and tenant appreciation activities
  • Development and implementation of a Life Safety and Security plan for loss prevention programs to protect both the assets of the owners and the property tenants
  • Direct supervision of 3rd Party Security Protection Service Provider & in-house supervisor with emphasis on developing a comprehensive training program around loss prevention, occupants life safety and the future image of the property
  • Maintain ongoing timely communication with General Manager of events
  • Follow proper procedures relative to reporting of liability claims and completion of occurrence reports
  • Develop and maintain communications with property tenants, local law enforcement agencies regarding crime prevention, local fire prevention personnel and to liaise with security peers in the market area
  • Develop and foster inter-departmental co-operation to ensure shared communication for safety of all concerned
  • Assist in the preparation and reconciliation of annual Life Safety and Security Budgets
  • Organization and implementation of seminars for tenants regarding safety and security issues, along with Fire Warden Training and the planning and implementation of an annual evacuation drill
  • Act as Co-chair for Health & Safety Committee
  • Develop and update comprehensive Threat Assessments, Crisis Response Plans and Life Safety Plans for the property
  • Develop, implement and maintain Emergency, Fire and Life Safety Plans
  • Develop and implement emergency procedures, disaster recovery plans, building access control, security systems, reports and recommendations
  • Provide annual, quarterly and new hire training for Primaris employees and required stakeholders for Emergency, Fire and Life Safety Plans
  • Motivative, direct and evaluate all direct reports through formal and informal discussions, annual performance reviews and goal setting sessions
  • Adhoc tasks as directed by General Manager

Requirements

To excel in this role, we are looking for candidates who are strong communicators and worked in a retail environment. If this opportunity sounds interesting to you, you likely have the following attributes :

  • Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in Police Foundations, Law & Security, Criminology or related field
  • Post secondary degree in law enforcement would be deemed a definite asset
  • Valid Security License
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • CPR / First Aid knowledge required
  • Verbal Judo would be considered an asset
  • Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT) an asset
  • Criminal background check clearance
  • Communicate clearly, concisely, professionally and convey active listening and openness;
  • Build positive relationships and demonstrate commitment, effort and a "take charge" attitude;
  • Produce accurate work with attention to detail and consistently meet deadlines;
  • Take ownership for actions, accept constructive criticism and make the necessary changes to behavior;
  • Overcome obstacles to get the job done, identify problems and recommend solutions;
