Job summary

Scotiabank is seeking a Manager, Portfolio Analytics (GRM - RESL) to monitor risk KPIs for the Real Estate Secured Lending portfolio and drive BI/reporting enhancements. You will deliver data-driven insights to Risk teams and business partners, turning complex data into actionable guidance for credit risk decisions.

You will collaborate with strategy, policy, and operations to support portfolio growth, maintain regulatory timelines, and expand analytics capabilities using SQL, SAS, Python, Power

  • Monitors key risk performance indicators for the RESL portfolio.
  • Develops and enhances BI/reporting tools for risk teams and business line partners.
  • Translates data into actionable insights for credit risk decisions.
  • Partner with strategy and policy teams on key initiatives and acquisitions impact.
  • Identify emerging risks with early warning indicators and proactive monitoring.
  • Support investigations and regulatory responses (OSFI) and internal audits.
  • Liaise with Fraud Department and Security and Investigations as required.

The Manager, Portfolio Analytics (GRM - RESL) is responsible for monitoring key risk performance indicators for the Real Estate Secured Lending (RESL) portfolio and contributing to the development and enhancement of business intelligence and reporting tools. The role provides actionable, data-driven insights to Risk teams as well as product and business line partners.

The incumbent leverages deep credit risk and analytical expertise to identify sustainable growth opportunities, assess portfolio health against established Risk Appetite metrics, monitor emerging risks through early warning indicators, and provide actionable insights. The role requires strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and relationship management skills to deliver high-quality risk analysis and recommendations.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
  • Leverage a range of Business Intelligence tools (ex. SQL, SAS, Python, PowerBI) to provide dynamic reporting on key performance metrics for stakeholders across GRM and business lines.
  • Lead the development of new reports and continuously seek opportunities to streamline and enhance reporting workflows.
  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis to uncover portfolio, macroeconomic, and market trends across diverse retail lending portfolios.
  • Translate complex data into actionable insights and compelling narratives that support informed credit risk decisions.
  • Partner with strategy and policy teams to deliver measurement and reporting on key strategic initiatives, including acquisition quality, the impact of origination strategy changes on portfolio growth.
  • Maintain a forward-looking perspective to proactively identify emerging risks, enabling early intervention through targeted analysis and enhanced monitoring.
  • Drive the evolution from descriptive to prescriptive analytics by focusing on key drivers of portfolio risk and profitability, and by developing creative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Continuously expand knowledge of business and product strategies, market trends, competitive practices, and emerging analytical methodologies to deliver impactful, forward-thinking solutions to stakeholders.
  • Provide timely support for investigations and resolution of issues raised by OSFI, ensuring responses meet regulatory expectations and deadlines.
  • Assist in addressing findings from Prefund Reviews and Internal Audits, ensuring appropriate and prompt resolution within agreed timelines.
  • Liaise with the Fraud Department and Security and Investigations as required.
  • Ensure all business line strategic priorities (i.e. life-cycle KPIs, early warning triggers, provisioning, etc.) are consistent with Risk Appetite Framework.
Do you have the skills that will enable you succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:
  • University degree in relevant STEM discipline or similar (i.e. Economics, Statistics, Business, Data Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Risk Management)
  • 1+ years of analytical experience required including statistical analysis
  • Must be proficient in using SAS, SQL, Python, Power BI and/or Tableau for data analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft word, Excel, Pivots, PPT, etc.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, prioritizing, planning & problem-solving skills.
  • Experiencing presenting to senior audiences.
  • Project management and leadership skills to prioritize, manage and implement a variety of competing initiatives, on a concurrent or staggered basis
  • Experience working in Banking Industry or Monoline is preferred
  • Knowledge of Real Estate Secured Lending Product (Mortgage and Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience working with Enterprise Data Lake (EDL), Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Hadoop-based environments is considered an asset.
