Job summary

Scotiabank in Toronto, Ontario is seeking a leader to oversee a team of adjudicators in the Commercial Agriculture Credit portfolio. You will ensure prompt adjudication within risk parameters and drive portfolio quality, profitability, and efficient team performance.

The role requires strong credit policy knowledge, financial analysis, and leadership skills, with an emphasis on risk assessment and creative financing proposals.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education completed.
  • Experience leading and coaching a team to success.
  • Thorough understanding of Commercial Banking, credit policies and procedures.
  • Skills in financial analysis and accounting, risk assessment and developing creative financing proposals demonstrating sound credit judgement.
  • Expert understanding of security documentation, legal ramifications and remedies is also necessary.
  • Strong leadership skills as demonstrated by the management of a team of adjudicators.
  • Understanding of the agriculture industry and various other diverse industries in which he/ she will be required to make / recommend credit decisions and must also be attentive to local economic trends within the assigned geographical area.
  • Good communication skills to converse effectively with line and corporate personnel.
  • Ability to make decisions, frequently in the face of uncertainty, and clearly communicate rationale for decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure credit applications are adjudicated promptly within risk parameters.
  • Monitor portfolio quality, oversee portfolio performance, risk rating migration, NAL formations, overdue reporting and annual reviews.
  • Supervise team members and ensure efficient operations with coaching and guidance.
  • Collaborate with Banking partners to ensure sound credit terms and bankable deals.
  • Support development of commercial human resources through coaching and training.

Through the direction and supervision of a team of adjudicators, you will contribute to the profitable growth and quality of the Bank’s Commercial Agriculture Credit portfolio, ensuring the assigned portfolio is efficiently maintained at an acceptable level of risk.

Is this role right for you? In this role you, will:

  • Ensure credit applications are adjudicated promptly, within the Bank’s risk selection parameters.
  • Ensuremaintenance of assigned Portfolio quality, by overseeing the portfolio, monitoring trends in risk rating migration, NAL formations, overdue reporting and annual reviews, etc. Identifies problems and initiates appropriate corrective action.
  • SuperviseTeam members and is responsible for the overall efficiency of the Team as reflected in minimal turnaround times, staffing levels, etc. Providedirect reports with coaching, direction, and guidance on credit and other matters when required. Has direct involvement with Banking Team Leads, Director Credit Solutions concerning credit transaction and training issues as necessary.
  • Manage the Partnership with Banking. Liaise with business partners in Commercial Agriculture and other units to maintain open communication ensuring good service levels are achieved and maintained to internal customers. Negotiatewith banking partners to ensure credit terms and conditions are appropriate and sound risk selection is achieved. Provideguidance to Banking in the preparation and structuring of credit proposals. Works to re-structure proposals into bankable deals.
  • Contributeto the development of the Bank’s commercial human resources by identifying training needs and ensuring that individual coaching and group coaching is provided to Banking GRM Team members.
