The Department of Justice’s Policy and Information Management Division brings together an inter-related group of department functions dedicated to the creation, coordination, analysis, sharing, accuracy, storage, and business use of information. The division’s support to the department includes: providing department-wide policy analysis and advice; research and analytics; business planning services; Federal/Provincial/Territorial relations; legislative support; managing the department’s records management program (central registry); and supporting the department’s facility and accommodation requirements.

About Our Opportunity
Reporting to the Director, Legislation, Policy and Federal/Provincial/Territorial Relations, the Manager of Policy will provide sound criminal law policy advice and support in federal/provincial/territorial relations, and provide policy leadership and project management on criminal justice related matters, and justice system-related matters more generally. They will lead a team of policy professionals providing advice and decision support to senior leadership. They will also work collaboratively across government and with various stakeholders and sectors to build collaborative relationships and support innovation across the justice system.

Primary Accountabilities
As the Manager of Policy, your responsibilities will include:
Leading in the provision of sound advice to senior management on complex criminal law issues, utilizing a broad knowledge of policies, programs and legislation;
Working in collaboration with colleagues and/or partners to identify options and address complex issues;
Establishing effective and collaborative relationships with a variety of stakeholders within and outside of government;
Representing the Department at federal/provincial/territorial meetings and forums and on interdepartmental committees;
Working with federal departments and other provincial/territorial governments, as required, to pursue issues of mutual interest (i.e., joint initiatives, cost-sharing); and, Ensuring the effective management of human and financial resources.

Qualifications and Experience
You possess an in-depth knowledge of criminal law and a university degree in a related area (e.g., Law, Public Administration, Criminology, or Psychology, plus several years’ progressive experience in criminal law practice and/or a criminal law policy development role (or an acceptable combination of education and experience).

You have significant experience in project management, leading in multi-disciplinary teams, possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to establish productive relationships with representatives of non-governmental and governmental organizations (both interdepartmentally and interjurisdictionally). Experience leading federal/provincial/territorial meetings and forums is an asset.

Pay Grade: EC 12

Salary Range: $3,760.89 – $4,701.11 Bi-Weekly
