Job summary

Cowichan Valley Regional District is seeking a Manager, Parks Operations to lead parks operations and maintenance programs within the Parks & Trails Division. You will report to the Senior Manager and oversee capital projects, compliance, enforcement, and risk management for community and regional parks.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, 6 years of experience in parks operations with 3 years in supervision, and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with First Aid.

• Six years of progressive experience in parks operations, maintenance and project management with three years in supervision.

Responsibilities

• Oversee two CVRD locations and participate in evening/weekend callouts and meetings.
• Collaborate with internal teams to provide safe and sustainable park services.

(Exempt Position) Parks & Trails Division Operations Department

Located on Vancouver Island just 50 km north of Victoria and 30 km south of Nanaimo, the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) is in the ancestral and unceded territories of First Nations including the Quw'utsun, Malahat, Ts'uubaa-asatx, Halalt, Penelakut, Stz'uminus, Lyackson, Pauquachin, Ditidaht, and Pacheedaht Nations. Local First Nations Peoples have stewarded the lands, waters, plants, and animals of this region since beyond time immemorial. The CVRD provides a wide range of local government services to a population of 95,000. The picturesque Cowichan Valley offers a warm climate and numerous parks, recreational, cultural, and social opportunities such as majestic mountains, the rugged West Coast Trail, serene lakes, and one of the world’s tallest free-standing timber rail trestles.

The Opportunity

Lead the delivery of exceptional parks operations and help shape the outdoor spaces that make the Cowichan Valley a great place to live, work, and play. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Parks & Trails Division, the Manager – Parks Operations is responsible for managing the park operations and maintenance management programs including the Parks Capital Project Program; Parks Compliance & Enforcement Program, and the Risk Management Program; for both the Regional District’s community and regional parks services.

Our Ideal Candidate

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited university (i.e. Landscape Horticulture, Parks Operations/Administration, Natural Resource Management and Conservation, Environmental Studies)
• Six years of related progressive experience in parks operations, maintenance and project management including three years of experience in supervision, preferably in a local government setting
• A Class 5 BC Drivers License & First Aid Level I with CPR
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered

What We Offer

• Salary range of $116,164.93 to $135,807.016 per year, commensurate with education, training and experience

• 35-hour full-time work week with the opportunity to participate in the CVRD’s Flex Time Program
• This position will be required to attend some evening and weekend callouts and meetings.
• This position works at two CVRD locations - Head Office in downtown Duncan and a satellite office located at 3900 Drinkwater Road, also in Duncan.
