Job summary

District of Saanich seeks an experienced leader to manage our Park Planning and Development team. You will direct park acquisitions, planning, design, construction and the development of Saanich's park system.

You will apply your strong people and project management skills to lead a diverse team, oversee public engagement initiatives using IAP2 tools and manage the Division’s $4 million capital budget to ensure projects are delivered effectively and on time.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Landscape Architecture or related field; six+ years in parks planning or development.
  • Eligible for membership in Planning Institute of BC or BC Society of Landscape Architects; valid BC Driver's license.
  • Experience managing municipal park projects, staff and capital budgets; staff supervision required.

The Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department is seeking an experienced leader to manage our Park Planning and Development team. This position will be responsible for directing all aspects of park acquisitions, planning, design, construction and the development of Saanich's park system.

You will apply your expertise and strong people and project management skills to lead a diverse team of supervisors, professional park planners and designers, technicians, and construction tradespeople. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring staff guide public engagement initiatives using IAP2 tools and techniques, as well as overseeing the Division’s $4 million capital budget and leading project implementation planning to ensure projects are delivered effectively and on time.

If you are an innovative leader, interested in incorporating new technologies, materials, and design practices to create inspiring public spaces, this could be the opportunity for you.

The ideal candidate will have a university degree in Landscape Architecture or a related field, along with a minimum of six years of relevant experience, including management and leadership in the planning, design, construction and management of parks, trails, and open spaces. Experience working on projects within a municipal government or department is considered an asset. Candidates must be a member, or be eligible for membership, in the Planning Institute of British Columbia or the British Columbia Society of Landscape Architects. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. A valid B.C.Class 5 Driver's License and a personal vehicle is also required.

This is an Exempt position with an annual salary range of $115,745-$136,125, an excellent benefits package and a generous pension plan. Job description and competition information can be found at www.saanich.ca.
