Job summary

The Corporate Officer at CVRD reports to the General Manager of Corporate Services and leads governance, records management, access to information and privacy, and democratic processes. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you advise the Board and senior staff on governance, policy, and risk to ensure compliant decision-making across the region.

This full-time, permanent role offers 35 hours per week, a salary ranging from $138,044 to $161,512 per year, and a comprehensive benefits package

Job description

Located on southern Vancouver Island just 50 km north of Victoria and 30 km south of Nanaimo, the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) is in the ancestral and unceded territories of First Nations including the Quw'utsun, Malahat, Ts'uubaa-asatx, Halalt, Penelakut, Stz'uminus, Lyackson, Pauquachin, Ditidaht, and Pacheedaht Nations. Local First Nations Peoples have stewarded the lands, waters, plants, and animals of this region since beyond time immemorial.

The CVRD is governed by a 16-member board comprised of appointed directors from four municipalities, the Town of Lake Cowichan, the Town of Ladysmith, the City of Duncan and the Municipality of North Cowichan, and an elected director from each of the nine electoral areas. With a population of approximately 95,000 residents, it provides a wide range of local government services to both electoral areas and municipalities in the region. This includes solid waste management, emergency planning, economic development and regional parks. Services are also provided exclusively at an electoral level - land use planning, bylaw enforcement, fire protection as well as water and wastewater systems.

About The Role

Reporting to the General Manager of Corporate Services, the Corporate Officer serves as the Regional District's statutory officer and provides strategic leadership for legislative governance, corporate administration, records management, access to information and privacy, and democratic processes. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Corporate Officer acts as a trusted advisor to the Board, Committees, Commissions, the CAO, and senior staff, providing expert guidance on governance, legislative requirements, procedural matters, corporate policy, and organizational risk.

This influential leadership role ensures the integrity of the Regional District's decision-making processes, supports transparent and accountable governance, and helps the organization meet its statutory obligations. Full-time permanent employment, 35 hours per week.

The salary for this position is $138,044.02 to $161,511.50 per year, commensurate with education, training and experience, with a comprehensive benefits package including extended health, dental, and insurance benefits, pension, and paid vacation.
