Job summary

City of Greater Sudbury seeks a Manager of Facility Design and Construction to oversee planning, design and delivery of municipal facility infrastructure projects and lead a multidisciplinary team.

You will manage budgets, collaborate with consultants, contractors and internal teams to ensure high-quality capital projects that meet community priorities and regulatory requirements.

This is a permanent, full-time role based at Tom Davies Square, offering a salary range and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • University degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
  • PEO-registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
  • Minimum seven years in a large, complex organisation with leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of municipal infrastructure planning, design and construction.
  • Proven project management, budgeting and strategic planning experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal English; French an asset.
  • Valid Class G driver’s licence with acceptable driving record.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the General Manager of Community Infrastructure, the Manager of Facility Design and Construction is responsible for overseeing the planning, design and delivery of facility infrastructure projects that support organisational priorities and community needs. You will lead a multidisciplinary team in delivering high-quality capital projects while fostering innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement. This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping municipal infrastructure through strategic leadership, sound financial management and effective project delivery.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead the planning, design and construction of facility infrastructure projects to ensure timely, cost-effective and high-quality outcomes.
  • Provide strategic leadership and technical direction to staff, supporting a collaborative, inclusive and high-performing team environment.
  • Oversee capital and operating budgets, ensuring responsible financial management and effective resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with consultants, contractors, developers and external partners to support successful project delivery.
  • Prepare reports, presentations and briefings for senior leadership, Council and stakeholders.
  • Foster innovation and continuous improvement in facility design and construction practices.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, elected officials, key partners and the public.
What You’ll Bring
  • University degree in a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • Minimum seven years of relevant experience in a large, complex organization, with demonstrated leadership experience; supervisory experience in a unionized environment is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of municipal infrastructure planning, design and construction, including applicable legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven project management, budgeting and strategic planning experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills; French language skills are an asset.
  • Valid Class G driver’s licence with an acceptable driving record.

Salary And Additional Benefits

The salary range for this position is $136,805.76 to $160,995.24 per year (subject to review*).

This role may be filled as a development opportunity if a fully qualified candidate is not identified. Salary will reflect a developmental range until qualifications are met.
