Position Overview

Reporting to the Director, Engineering, Asset Management & PMO, the Manager, Engineering Services provides strategic leadership and direction to a team of engineering professionals responsible for delivering high-quality engineering services across FortisBC's transmission, distribution, compressor station, telecommunications, and SCADA systems.

This role is accountable for ensuring engineering programs, projects, and services are delivered safely, efficiently, on time and in compliance with regulatory requirements while supporting the organization's long-term business objectives. The successful candidate will drive operational excellence, foster a culture of accountability and innovation, and ensure engineering resources are effectively aligned to meet current and future business needs.

In this role, you will:

• Provide strategic leadership and oversight to Engineering Services, ensuring the delivery of safe, reliable, and cost-effective engineering solutions across FortisBC's utility infrastructure.
• Lead and develop a high-performing team by fostering a culture of accountability, engagement, continuous improvement, and exceptional customer service.
• Mentor, coach, and support leaders and employees through performance management, employee development, recognition programs, and progressive discipline processes.
• Manage multiple engineering initiatives and projects simultaneously, establishing priorities and balancing resources to meet short- and long-term business objectives.
• Ensure adequate engineering resources are available to support project execution and the development of work products that comply with applicable regulations, engineering standards, specifications, and company processes.
• Review and approve engineering designs, specifications, technical solutions, and recommendations, ensuring sound engineering judgment and technical excellence.
• Develop, implement, and standardize engineering procedures, methodologies, and best practices to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and service delivery.
• Evaluate emerging technologies, industry trends, and engineering practices, recommending innovative solutions that support business and operational goals.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop strategic engineering solutions that consider the needs of both gas and electric operations.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry requirements, including those established by agencies such as the Canada Energy Regulator, Technical Safety BC, the BC Energy Regulator and Engineers and Geoscientists BC.

What it takes:

You bring a strong combination of engineering expertise, leadership experience, and strategic thinking, along with:

• A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience within the utility industry, including significant leadership responsibility.
• Experience applying regulatory requirements and industry standards within an engineering environment.
• Strong knowledge of utility regulatory frameworks and engineering principles related to the natural gas industry.
• Demonstrated experience leading complex engineering programs and projects.
• Excellent leadership, communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
• Proven ability to develop and deliver technical and management reports, recommendations, and presentations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, including experience researching engineering issues and evaluating alternatives.
• A track record of developing innovative engineering solutions that enhance utility system performance, reliability, and safety.
