Job summary

Guelph General Hospital is seeking a Nursing Manager for the Emergency Department. Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • BScN required; Master’s degree in a health-related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience.
  • 2 years formal management experience.
  • Lean process improvement methodologies experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership in patient and staff safety.
  • Strong interpersonal and coaching skills.
  • Ability to lead in stressful, complex clinical settings.

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Manager is responsible for facilitating day to day operations for patient care related activities within the Emergency Department at GGH. They daily direction to all unit personnel to provide high quality, safe, evidence-based care in partnership with the patient and families and in keeping with the vision, mission and values of GGH. In collaboration with the Director, they implement initiatives that align with departmental and strategic goals and objectives of the organization.

The Manager, in collaboration with the Director, ensures they provide an environment that supports and advances professional practice and leads clinical staff in implementing evidence-based practices that are sensitive to limited resources within a patient centred care philosophy. They serve as role model for professional and organizational core competencies and support quality patient-care outcomes.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:
  • Registered Nurse with current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario

  • Membership in relevant professional organization(s)
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant clinical experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and responsibilities, with 2 years formal management experience
  • Experience with guiding staff experiencing performance and/or attendance problems
  • Experience with Lean process improvement methodologies

  • Demonstrated skills in building collaborative relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute strategies to maintain a balanced financial position.
  • Experience with conflict resolution
  • Demonstrates knowledge in clinical practice in the care of Emergency department patients throughout the life span; including, patients with mental health and addictions, trauma, stroke and cardiac conditions and the care of complex medicine patients.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of patient flow and bed allocation processes, including working knowledge of infection control guidelines as they pertain to patient flow decision making.
