OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Deputy Chief Financial Officer, you will be responsible for overseeing all planning, forecasting, accounting and reporting activities related to capital expenditures which includes the redevelopment projects, acquisition of clinical andnon-clinical equipment, facilities renovations, IT systems and solutions. This position will play a key role in managing all aspects of the hospital’s capital funding and planning; including but not limited to funding from Ontario Health (OH), Michael Garron Hospital Foundation (Foundation) and other funding agencies, along with planning for long-term capital financing sustainability. This position will also be responsible for the preparation of related financial reporting to leaders, committees and OH, including the coordination of external audit(s). In its treasury management capacity, the position will oversee all treasury functions, including overseeing cash usage, forecasting of cash requirements, maximizing short-term investment opportunities, managing financial instruments and debt and other related banking arrangements. This position will also oversee all ancillary financial activities, which include management of hospital tenants and retail leasing activities to ensure the maximization of the Hospital’s commercial revenue streams.
In this multi-faceted role, you will be co-leading a finance team of 6 members along with the Manager, Financial Planning and Reporting and will work closely with various stakeholders from redevelopment, facilities, IT and Foundation leaders. The successful candidate is a critical thinker and a self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment. The incumbent must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and a client focused attitude while maintaining positive working relationships. Exceptional oral and written communication is critical to the success of this role, as it will require direct communication with both internal and external parties (including the Ministry, Bank and the Foundation).
EDUCATION
- CPA designation mandatory (CA preferred)
- University degree (preferably Business or Commerce)
- Demonstrated in depth knowledge of GAAP as applicable to Hospitals
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, must have advanced Excel skills
- Knowledge of SAP is desirable
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in financial accounting and reporting in a large complex organization with minimum 2 years of finance leadership function, preferably in a hospital setting
- Prior experience in capital accounting, planning and reporting
- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills with ability to utilize critical thinking
- Knowledge and understanding of continuous quality improvement techniques as they relate to financial targets, timeliness, client and staff satisfaction
- Proven ability to consolidate and summarize data in a presentation format for senior management’s review and assessment
- Demonstrated ability to manage conflicting priorities
- Ability to be creative, change adaptive, proactive, flexible and future focused
- Ability to sustain high performance teamwork and enterprise wide co-operation
- Excellent leadership skills with abilities to facilitate, coordinate and integrate teams and stakeholders
