Qualifications

What You Will Do:

Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, the Manager, Accounts Payable (AP) leads the AP function with a focus on accuracy, efficiency, and service. This role ensures timely and compliant payments to vendors, suppliers, and employees while supporting inventory and cost analysis across operations. As a key partner to internal teams and external stakeholders, the Manager drives continuous improvement, fosters a high-performing team, and maintains strong relationships with suppliers and regulatory agencies.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the Accounts Payable function to ensure timely, accurate payments and strong vendor relationships.
  • Hire, train, coach, and develop AP staff to build a high-performing, accountable team.
  • Oversee daily AP operations, including cheque disbursements and wire transfers (weekly and monthly).
  • Maintain accurate and complete financial, vendor, and payment records.
  • Establish and enforce AP policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • Analyze and report key AP performance metrics; identify gaps and implement improvements.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for vendors and internal stakeholders, ensuring responsive and professional service.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes related to payables.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Operations teams to align on budgets, forecasts, and cost management.
  • Ensure compliance with external reporting requirements and corporate policies.
  • Continuously improve AP systems and processes to enhance accuracy and workflow efficiency with a focus on automation initiatives.
  • Participate in finance meetings, providing AP-related insights and recommendations.
  • Support audits and ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and accessible.
  • Partner cross-functionally to re-engineer processes and support strategic initiatives as needed.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive team culture aligned with organizational values and goals.

What will You bring?

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA designation or working towards it (preferred)
  • 5+ years of full-time accounting experience, including AP management
  • 3+ years of experience managing people or leading teams.
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and inventory valuation
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting principles and customer adjustments.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (J.D. Edwards or similar).
  • Advanced Excel skills and solid knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Preferred Assets:

  • Experience working in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
  • Knowledge of pricing structures, financial reconciliations, and rebates.
  • Demonstrated success in process improvement and automation.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
