Job summary

Renfrew Victoria Hospital is seeking a casual Maintenance Worker I to join our Maintenance Department. You will handle general facilities maintenance, minor repairs, and routine upkeep across hospital grounds and buildings, with supervision as needed.

The role requires Grade XI, 3+ years of related experience, and good communication. An accessible Education Fund supports ongoing education and certifications for staff.

Qualifications

• Grade XI required.
• Trades certificate is an asset but not required.
• Minimum 3 years related experience.
• Ability to read, write, speak and follow written direction.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties within the scope of an unlicensed tradesperson, including general facilities maintenance (e.g., minor mechanical repairs of equipment such as dietary and laundry equipment, intake/exhaust fans, compressors, beds, sterilizers, etc); performing preventive maintenance, moving furniture and equipment, minor cleaning of drains, assembling equipment and routine inspection of equipment, upkeep and repair of parking equipment.
• Perform minor building maintenance and renovation projects, e.g., painting, mounting equipment, sanding, patching, drywall, etc.
• Under supervision of licensed tradesperson, perform other general maintenance, electrical, plumbing, welding, carpentry and physical plant repairs and maintenance for sign-off by supervising tradesperson.
• Receives daily assignments from the Director, Physical Plant and Grounds, and prioritizes work orders.
• Removes garbage as per protocol.
• Maintains hospital grounds (e.g., parking areas, lawn care and mowing, snow removal, etc.).
• Performs security checks.
• Covers breaks at switchboard.
• Is fully knowledgeable of disaster protocol and performs emergency services as needed.
• Identifies when a job requires a level of expertise that is beyond the scope of the position
• Performs other related and associated duties as required.

Qualifications

Duties will include but are not limited to:
