Job summary

Shannex Incorporated in Halifax, Nova Scotia, is seeking a Maintenance Worker to join the Parkland Clayton Park team. You will perform general maintenance on facilities, equipment and grounds and assist with preventive maintenance programs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 1–2 years of construction or building maintenance experience.
• Knowledge of WHMIS and health and safety legislation.
• Advanced proficiency in English required.
• Certification in Carpentry, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Plumbing or Electrical trades is an asset.
• Criminal Record Check clearance required.
• Passion for healthcare and senior living.

Responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance on facilities, equipment, and grounds.
• Repair structures and equipment; respond to maintenance requests.
• Assemble, move, deliver, set up, and pick up furniture and equipment.
• Assist in inspections and preventive maintenance programs.
• Process work orders via PM Worx.
• Assist with fire safety training and drills.
• Follow health and safety policies to protect staff and residents.

About The Opportunity

• Performs general maintenance duties and scheduled preventive maintenance work on physical facilities, equipment and grounds
• Performs general repair work on structures and equipment (responds to maintenance requests)
• Assembles, moves, delivers, sets up and picks up furniture and equipment
• Performs general repair work on structures, patches & paints any damaged walls
• Assists the Plant, Building & Safety Manager in the inspection of buildings, grounds and equipment; carries out preventive maintenance program actions
• Accesses PM Worx program for Preventive Maintenance schedules and to process work orders
• Requests necessary materials, supplies, parts and tools required and maintains control of storage and use
• Performs and documents internal and external inspections and audits
• Accesses PM Worx program for Preventive Maintenance schedules and processes work orders through the same program
• Participates in emergency (disaster) plan and mock disaster exercises
• Works in conjunction with Shannex fire and safety policies to help train staff in fire safety techniques; schedules fire drills and evaluates performance effectiveness
• Takes every precaution that is reasonable in the circumstances to ensure the health and safety of employees, residents and all others in the workplace

About You

In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:

• A High School Diploma or completion of equivalent education
• 1-2 years’ experience in construction or building maintenance
• Knowledge of WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety legislation
• Advanced Proficiency in English required, other languages considered an asset
• Certification in Carpentry, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Plumbing or Electrical trades considered an asset.
• Knowledge of blueprint reading considered an asset
• Successful candidates will be required to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check, and where applicable, a Vulnerable Sector Check, prior to appointment
