The opportunity: The Maintenance Technician I is responsible for maintenance and repair duties within assigned buildings. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the role ensures buildings are maintained in a clean, safe, and environmentally responsible manner, optimizing operational efficiency and reporting regularly to the OM.

What You Will Do

  • Conduct regular property walkthroughs to ensure cleanliness and safety, maintaining inspection records.
  • Monitor site contractors to ensure compliance with contract terms, reporting findings to the OM.
  • Supervise significant repairs (HVAC, paving, roofing), ensuring proper completion and tenant communication.
  • Coordinate tenant design reviews and landlord work at tenant premises.
  • Ensure property setup on Angus, with scheduled testing and inspections (HVAC, fire safety, roof, etc.).
  • Participate in greening activities and support BOMA BEST programs.
  • Oversee fire/life safety inspections, ensure fire exits are clear, and verify compliance with codes.
  • Inspect electrical and mechanical rooms, perform infrared/thermal imaging as needed.
  • Conduct roof inspections and oversee HVAC inspections, reviewing findings with the OM.
  • Inspect vacant units regularly, complete checklists, and document tenant move-ins/outs.
  • Handle tenant operational questions and coordinate contractor responses to issues.
  • Perform minor repairs (lighting, drywall, painting, graffiti removal, etc.).
  • Respond to emergency/after-hours calls per policy and report to OM.
  • Support insurance and risk management inspections and reporting.
  • Assist with property budgeting, key control, and maintaining site supplies.
  • Attend training courses (Environmental, WHMIS, First Aid, etc.) and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Promote environmental sustainability and social responsibility initiatives.
  • Coordinate with other team members and participate in after-hours on-call duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Who You Are

Education: BOMA Facilities Management training or related courses are assets. Lift training is an asset.

Experience: 3+ years in building operations or property management; construction experience is a plus.

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Office
  • Experience with hand tools and small power tools is an asset
  • Proficient with smartphones and mobile apps for work management

Skills & Traits: Effective communication, professionalism, self-motivation, organization, initiative, and integrity. Ability to handle stress, work in various environments, and respond to emergencies.

Leadership & Decision-Making: Ability to lead, provide direction, and resolve problems logically and strategically.

Computer Skills: Proficiency with iPhones, emailing, and basic office software.

Physical Requirements: Ability to climb ladders, lift, kneel, and walk long distances.

Police Clearance: Criminal verification check required.
