Job purpose

The Maintenance Technician ensures the reliable operation of plant equipment by performing repairs, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance. This role supports production to minimize downtime, implements continuous improvement practices, and maintains mechanical assets. The technician also updates records and inventory, ensuring efficient plant operations while maintaining safety, cost control, and product quality.

Duties and Responsibilities

The associate’s primary functions and responsibilities are as follows:

  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair complex production equipment with minimal supervision to ensure optimal performance.
  • Perform timely and efficient bake end and packaging equipment repairs.
  • Conduct machining, fabrication, and welding for equipment repairs, upgrades, and modifications.
  • Safely work in elevated areas to perform necessary maintenance tasks within the plant.
  • Provide technical support to production teams to minimize downtime.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement by actively engaging in process optimization initiatives.
  • Complete weekly preventive maintenance (PM) tasks and work orders as authorized by the Maintenance Manager and Team Leader.
  • Accurately document work orders, records, and non-conformities to ensure transparency and compliance.
  • Utilize Root Cause Analysis to effectively address and correct equipment deviations and failures.
  • Demonstrate expertise in equipment overhauls, machining, pneumatics, hydraulics, and piping systems.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions to improve equipment reliability and performance.
  • Maintain and monitor all mechanical aspects of production assets to support ongoing operations.
  • Update and manage inventory through the CCMS program for accurate asset tracking.
  • Ensure plant equipment operates efficiently while maintaining safety, product quality, and cost control.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
  • Follow Health and Safety rules and regulations.
  • Must follow Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Safety, and Food Defense guidelines.
  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a relevant technical program in mechanics or industrial maintenance is an asset.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in maintenance or mechanical roles within a manufacturing or food processing environment preferred.
  • Proficient in installing, troubleshooting, and repairing complex production equipment with minimal supervision.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose mechanical issues quickly and effectively.
  • Experience with a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Great attention to detail with accuracy.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Working conditions

  • Work indoors.
  • May be exposed to hot temperatures from ovens.
  • May work close to others, usually within a few feet.
  • Compliant with ventilation, cleanliness, space, lighting, and temperature.

Physical requirements

  • Standing involved.
  • May repeat the same movement.
  • Often wear safety equipment such as gloves, hair nets, steel toed safety shoes/boots and beard nets.
  • Ability to bend or twist their body.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
