Job Summary

In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority, patient safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. The Maintenance Power Engineer 3rd Class operates, maintains, repairs, and modifies systems related to steam distribution, condensate, hot water heating, HVAC, medical air/vacuum, and power generation at a 3rd Class Power Engineer’s level, following regulatory codes, Worksafe BC regulations, and hospital policies. The position also provides vacation and sickness relief in the Steam Generation Plant as needed.

Duties/Accountabilities
  1. Liaise with the Steam and Mechanical Systems Supervisor on operational strategies and maintenance tasks for building systems.
  2. Determine materials, tools, and equipment needed; refer to blueprints; consult with end users; ensure work conforms to standards and regulations; maintain a clean workspace.
  3. Monitor and adjust HVAC systems using control systems; perform repairs, calibrations, and maintain logs.
  4. Perform preventive and demand maintenance on steam and hot water systems, including piping, valves, appliances, and pumps.
  5. Maintain condensate systems, HVAC equipment, water loop systems, sterilizers, appliances, and medical equipment.
  6. Respond to trouble calls, advise on resolutions, and communicate with supervisors.
  7. Complete work orders using the maintenance management system, documenting all activities.
  8. Provide relief in Steam Generation Plant as Assistant Shift Engineer when required.
  9. Read and interpret mechanical drawings, provide feedback on system modifications.
  10. Maintain inventory of supplies and tools; recommend purchases.
  11. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience

Graduation from a recognized power engineering program, four years of recent related experience, or an equivalent combination. Certification as a 3rd Class Power Engineer is required.
