Job summary

The City of Saskatoon is hiring a Maintenance Planning Superintendent (Facilities) in Utilities and Environment. You will lead maintenance planning, scheduling, and materials management to ensure safe, reliable operations and optimized inventory, while guiding a team of planners and coordinators.

Qualifications

  • Two (2) years post-secondary Engineering Technology program and eligible for certification as an Applied Science Technologist (A.Sc.T) with Technology Professionals Saskatchewan
  • Interprovincial Journeyperson Trade Certification in Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing, or Painting
  • Two (2) year post-secondary diploma for Power Engineering or other relevant educational experience
  • Degree in a related engineering field and registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in a field related to commercial construction or industrial plants, including: Two (2) years of experience in facility maintenance management applying skills in maintenance planning and scheduling
  • Two (2) years of experience in facility maintenance management applying skills in maintenance planning and scheduling
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience
  • Possession of a Maintenance Management Professional Certificate (MMP), Asset Management Professional (AMP) Certificate, or Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) designation.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's Licence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the Maintenance Planning and Materials functions, including staffing, onboarding, performance management, coaching, and discipline, while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to ensure a strong safety culture and compliance with all applicable legislation, corporate policies, and industry standards.
  • Establish and govern maintenance planning and scheduling strategies that support asset reliability, cost control, and municipal service delivery, aligned with organizational objectives, approved budgets, and lifecycle asset management principles.
  • Refine maintenance programs using data analysis, equipment history, and manufacturer guidelines. Shift maintenance from reactive to proactive through Reliability Centered Maintenance practices where appropriate.
  • Oversee standardized planning and scheduling processes with work orders to ensure work readiness and effective integration of labour, materials, equipment, and contracted services.
  • Oversee resource planning and capacity management in collaboration with Maintenance and Operations to ensure appropriate skills, certifications, and coverage to meet operational demands.
  • Monitor and analyze maintenance performance metrics, including preventive maintenance compliance, backlog, and productivity, and provide leadership with actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Ensure the effective use and governance of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and related systems to support planning, performance tracking, and data‑driven decision‑making.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Human Resources, IT, and other stakeholders to support coordinated service delivery and minimize operational risk.
  • Support capital project delivery by contributing to design reviews and ensuring new assets, maintenance plans, and asset data are appropriately established within the CMMS.
  • Establish inventory and materials management strategies that ensure critical spare parts availability, optimize inventory investment, and support service continuity.
  • Provide oversight and direction for inventory control practices, material standardization, material master data quality, and storage standards to improve efficiency and reduce lifecycle costs.
  • Work collaboratively with Operations, Maintenance, and Supply Chain Management to identify contracted materials and support the development and management of material supply agreements
  • Lead initiatives to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness, using data analysis to set high performance standards and promoting continuous improvement.
  • Support operating budget planning by projecting maintenance requirements. Identify areas for cost savings and operational efficiency.
  • Perform additional related responsibilities as assigned in support of the maintenance and asset management strategy.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for leading and optimizing maintenance planning, scheduling, and materials management functions to support safe, reliable, and cost‑effective operations. Education, Training and Experience Requirements

  • Possession of one of the following:
    • Two (2) years post-secondary Engineering Technology program and eligible for certification as an Applied Science Technologist (A.Sc.T) with Technology Professionals Saskatchewan

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

  • Proficiency with CMMS software and maintenance planning tools, preferably SAP.
  • Proficiency in the use of a computer using the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong understanding of proactive maintenance strategies, maintenance planning, scheduling, asset management best practices, and reliability principles.
  • Knowledge of modern principles of material planning, handling and inventory management.
  • Knowledge and understanding of building mechanical, electrical, architectural, structural, and other systems commonly found in a commercial facility.
  • Knowledge of materials, equipment, and supplies used in various commercial facilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and gain knowledge from internal and/or external stakeholders and become a functional area leader for business process change.
  • Proven leadership and change management abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to make complex decisions while considering the “big picture” perspective, with a defensible and consistent process.
  • Ability to perform duties in an organized and efficient manner.
  • Analytical thinker with experience interpreting data to improve performance.

Weekly Hours:36.67

Salary Range:$93,293.52to$109,486.56 CADper annum (2026rates)
