Work at White Point: Maintenance Painter/Personnel

Position Maintenance Painter/Personnel

Job Start Date Immediately

Must reside and be able to legally work in Canada

Located on Nova Scotia’s picturesque South Shore, White Point is a quintessential beachfront holiday experience – all year round. The Main Lodge is the heart of the property – sprawling, yet cozy, with crackling wood fires and warm, maritime hospitality.

Role Summary

Must possess proficient knowledge and experience as an interior and exterior painter, with exceptional experience in home painting. Must provide quality guest service through knowledge of resort expectations. Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have a minimum of two years’ experience as a residential or commercial painter. Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities
  • Provide interior and exterior painting to resort buildings of various types.
  • Inspect surfaces and determine appropriate primers, paints, finishes, and tools for application.
  • Cover furniture, fixtures, and exposed surfaces for protection prior to starting projects.
  • Prepare walls, cabinets, siding, fences, or other surfaces (scraping, sandpapering, paint removal, etc).
  • Repair cracks, dents, holes, and other minor surface damage with putty or plaster before painting.
  • Mix paint colors to achieve the correct color and texture.
  • Apply paint and/or stain to various surfaces.
  • Maintain inventory of paint brushes, rollers, tarps, and other supplies.
  • Remove old finishes using scrapers, chemical compounds, or blowtorches.
  • Provide efficient, attentive, and friendly service to guests.
  • Adhere to established standards.
  • Practice good customer and staff relations.
  • Complete elements required of the position as outlined in the Maintenance Personnel Training Outline.
  • Provide services requested by guests and other departments within trained capabilities.
  • Report to work on time and in full uniform.
  • Have complete knowledge of all equipment required to use.
  • Have knowledge of services offered in the hotel.
  • Maintain cleanliness of public areas.
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment and storage spaces.
  • Maintain organization of supplies.
  • Promptly complete requisitions.
  • Greet guests in a friendly manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • Inform manager of guest comments promptly.
Requirements
  • Must be able to climb, stand, kneel, reach, crouch, and grasp repetitively.
  • WHMIS certification.
  • Appearance and Grooming
    • Clean uniform.
    • Neat hairstyle.
    • Clean fingernails.
    • Safe footwear.
    • Shower daily.
    • Use of mild cologne and deodorant.
    • Name tag.
    • Minimum jewelry.
  • Preparation for Shift
    • Check with supervisor for day’s priorities.
    • Check requisitions for maintenance orders.
    • In the absence of the Maintenance Supervisor, plan and supervise the activities of other staff members in the department as required.
  • Public Spaces
    • Maintain cleanliness of grounds, parking areas, and garbage receptacles.
    • Keep storage spaces and hallways clean and clear.
  • Guest Room Services
    • Provide preventative maintenance services as per program schedule.
    • Ensure walkways/stairways and all areas encountered are safe, clean, and clear.
  • Equipment
    • Ensure the state of the equipment is maintained through preventative maintenance and careful use.
    • Protect the security of the equipment with proper and secure storage after use.
    • Follow all safety procedures required to avoid any risk to person or equipment.
  • Use of Social Skills
    • Greet guests.
    • Address guests.
    • Engage in conversation with guests.
    • Handle complaints.
    • Deal with difficult customers.
    • Work harmoniously with colleagues and management.
    • Manage accidents involving guests and staff.
  • Orientation
    • Understand property information.
    • Know hotel and other facilities.
    • Understand management structure.
    • Know management and employee rights.
    • Understand work schedule.
    • Know employee benefits.
    • Understand fire procedures.
    • Know accident hazards.

  • Attend Department/Training Meetings
    • Be a member of the Occupational Health and Safety Committee (one per department).
